vibration from front end while braking
Hey guys,
My '94 LeSabre is driving me insane! When I bought the car, there was some minor pulsating in the front brakes when I'd hit the brakes lightly(it's gotten MUCH worse in the ~1500 miles I've driven it). If I push down hard on the pedal it goes away. Also, turning the steering wheel just slightly either way seems to help the problem. I've taken off the wheels and I know that the pads/rotors have some uneven wear to them(looks like the previous owner NEVER had the rotors machined), but the rotors don't look warped (I took those off for closer inspection). I'm planning on having the rotors resurfaced and install new pads next time I get paid, but is there anything else I should look for? The car stops perfectly fine, but the shaking or whatever it is HAS to go. |

Re: vibration from front end while braking
I would try a brake job before anything else. Plus it is probably cheaper just to get new rotors because out here they dont resurface rotors.

Yeah, I know that the auto parts store near my house will resurface rotors, but it might be cheaper to buy new ones (that plus I dunno if they are even good enough to BE resurfaced).
I'll keep you guys posted as to what happens. |

Re: vibration from front end while braking
if the brake job doesnt fix it check the wheel bearings and/or the 1/2 shaft (cv shaft). if the rotor is warped you wont be able to see it with the naked eye you'll need a dti (dial test indicator). you can get a cheap one at use-enco.com for under $20. also, i've bought cheap rotors and they sucked...vibrated, heated up fast, and wore out real fast. same for cheap pads. i'm as cheap as they come, so i wouldnt say this unless it was worth it... blow a couple extra bucks on good pads and rotors and don't let the rotors get to thin before replacing them. they'll pay for themselves in quality of braking and duration.
