Governer at 110

Hey i have an 89 camaro rs 305 5.0L TBI. my governer kicks on at 110 and i was going to get a chip for it so it doesnt do that, i was also told that just getting a chip uprgrade will prevent the governer from kicking on. but i am not sure. if anyone knows how to prevent the governer from kicking in at 110 or what i need to do let me know. thanks alot.

First you need to get speed rated tires. Then you'd need to get a chip programmed with the speed limiter set to max, 255 mph.

Re: Governer at 110

Does that seem kinda low, I dont know if the govenors changed for the 91's, but I was going close to or over 110 and didnt feel it kick in. Mines a 91. Maybe im wrong, but I know some jurkoff will correct me with some sarcastic crap.
Yeah, 3 freking stars!!!

i remember reading somewhere that the speed limiter setting is dependent upon the option package that came from the factory, cars equipped with higher rated tires had a higher limiter setting...is that right morley?
i also have a '91 RS, and when i was running the stock TBI computer, it would cut out around 108.

Yep, the cars that came with non speed rated tires had the limiter set to 108.

Re: Re: Governer at 110

yeah i have tires that are capable of higher speeds. so i just need to find a chip that will give me a higher top speed? or will a regular all around power and horsepower chip do the trick?

So do i need to get a chip specificially designed for increasing top speed. or will just a standard all around performance chip take care of my problem?

The "performance chips" are junk, for what you pay you get basically nothing in return. Just get someone to burn you a new chip with the speedlimiter removed. It would take them about 15 minutes to do it.
