My Ava18 Enclosure
...Minus the MDF and constuction portion of it...
i made use of the 10% Vetrian discount at lowes and saved myself a few bucks....too bad lowes doesnt have 3/4" MDF sheets, only homedepot, in gainsvill, 30min away.... ![]() construction will begin in a few weeks upon receiving the Ava18. and the amp will be purchased 2 paychecks from now... BX1205D My system will go boom like so... 6cuft tuned to aprox 29Hz (i changed to 5/8 threaded steel where i had originally calulated for 2x2) with 77sqin of port area side firing. |

Re: My Ava18 Enclosure
Also, when you say side firing...like how?
Keep the subwoofer and port on the same face, I have an extended cab dakota...for an 18...keep them both forward. (That is unless you want to sacrifice 18" of depth to fire upwards...which I highly doubt). NG |

Re: My Ava18 Enclosure
hifonics=overrated. And it would be better to have more headroom with the bx1605 and be able to get full output. Trust me the bx1205/bx1500 doesn't come anywhere near what an AV can thermally hanlde. I've done that exact same install in a sealed box and the sub is barely warm after hours of play.

Re: My Ava18 Enclosure
more than one source say the BX1205 and BX1605 or hte "super class d's" do close to rated, and with the 1205 i would set the gain to have aprox. 1000w assumeing a true 1ohm load as far as voltage is concerned to give a little extra voltage for impeadence rise.
the only other option from hifonics is the TX1505... im on budget, amp < $310 |

Re: My Ava18 Enclosure
BTW, Sidefiring like every truck box, 18 facing forward, port facing to the side, driver's side 4th door to be exact, 90 degrees from each other. 11" of space between the end of the port and the 4th door, and the port is going to be 7x11".
getting the port to face forward will be a pain in the ass because of the slant and required port length and before i would go up firing, in an extended cab pickup, i would go down firing. ive done my playing with this, 9 times out of 10 in an ext cab truck downfiring is a few dB's louder than forward or side and even more than up, im not sure why but it is. and hte worse that can happen is it not gaining anything...never lost a dB. i dont use LEAP or w/e program you use...but if you think you can do better... Re: My Ava18 Enclosure
Just make the damn box rectangular...make it wider...and put the sub/porto n the same face
![]() I've had just a "tad" more time with systems in an extended cab truck than you Firing forward, with port on the same face is the best...feasible thing to do. (Of course, feasible...meaning upwards or downwards firing is NOT unless using 12's or lower...)NG |
