HELP! I've got an 89 Jetta Wolfsburg Edition, 1.8L, DOHC, 16v. It seems to drive fine, but when I'm sitting still, it's idling at 3000rpm. I messed with the idle adjustment screw and the rpm's dropped, but only to about 2200. Any ideas?

Re: 89 Jetta idling at 3000rpm
yeah what you need to do is, read this carefully its vital ok
1.throw a brick through the DRIVERS side window 2.open your hood and pour water in the brake fluid 3.light your car on fire(most important) and then drive it into the FRONT of YOUR house. all those steps should fix your problem.....how about just take it to your local volkswagon dealership....cus u know that usually helps |

buck, you are quite a sarcastic ass for someone who asks as many questions as you do. it sounds like a vacuume leak is causing your engine to idle high.

Re: 89 Jetta idling at 3000rpm
it could be your idler control valve. They have a tendency to get stuck open. Does it happen when you first start it, when it gets warmed up, or all the time? Also, you should never mess with your idle adjust screw. It is factory set.
