Hi,
Gone through. well a serious pain with this. To make a long story short, a couple of months ago my car would not start. I was boosting the car with a portable battery until I finally took the car in to the garage. My battery (which is an ENERGIZER btw) apparently was fine and they told me there was an issue with the alternator. So I took my alternator in a few weeks later (After much headache constantly boosting the car) to an alternator specialist/repair shop. They identified the problem as being 2 bad diodes on the alternator, repaired it- I put the alternator back in and it worked fine for a month. One morning the car wouldn't start and I was back to square one. However in this case, if I drove with more than a couple of things going on at the same time the car would die. Meaning I could have my lights on, but not at the same time as the radio or the AC or the wipers. It would just kill the car, I would see the low battery light go on. So finally I took the alternator back to the repair shop and they told me the alternator was fine. They also told me never to use silicone on the wires as is what I did previously since the piece connecting the three wires from the battery into the alternator had broken. So they gave me a replacement adapter and I reconnected it. Anyway the problem is this: It ran fine the whole day including starting right away when I got into it in the morning but when I turned the car off but when in "idle" mode (engine off but the key turned forward) and put my hazard lights on, the car lights dims dramatically and the car itself went dead. I had to boost the car again with the portable battery ![]() It also may or may not start in the mornings now. As I understand it there is one 6 volt wire and two 12 volts wires with one having "continuous," voltage. I think I made a mistake when I put these wires in. I had tried to reverse what I believed to be the two 12s but when I did that it showed a low battery so I returned the wire to the original position. I wasn't about to move the 6 volt wire for a 12 as I suspect something would blow. I'm on my way to get a voltmeter however how do I know what position each one of these 3 wires go into the alternator? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks Mystic |

Re: 1993 Celica - How to connect Battery to alternator properly?
Have you recharged the battery, cause if it went dead, the altinator on its own wont be enough to replace a full amount of charge back into the battery. hook it up to a battery charger overnight and see if that helps, By the way, dont recharge the battery in your house like I hear of soooo many people doing, it gives off Hydrogen sulphide gas which is explosive and hazzordus to your health (something to do with it eating the lining of your lungs) which is also a good idea not to have the battery in your boot/trunk in a Celica (unless you have the coupe)cause there is no sealed divider between the trunk and the cabin.
