A/C compressor noise
my mom has a '96 geo metro, the air conditioner switches quit working and now there is a grinding noise coming from the compressor. If you take the belt of it goes away, but i can spin the compressor with my hand and it grinds a little. Could it be the compressor has went bad.

Our spare car is a 1993 Geo Metro and I have the same problem, so I can tell you whats wrong.
My better half came home and said the Air was not working, the first thing I checked was to see if the clutch was locking on the compresser, she turned it on and orange sparks came out of the unit. Seems the clutch gos bad, and gets eaten up, so metal to metal is going on when you push that switch. Want more bad news? the clutch is non replacable, you have to put in a new compresser! And you have to have the who system re-friged. Sorry for the bad news
