Jim, with your mods and your complaining about MPG? You know it could be worse if you had a gas hog SUV. I laugh everytime when I'm at the gas pump after looking at the expression on a SUV owners face after filling up.

Well, I pasted up a gas station once.
No, I know you get what you pay for. I've had cars that got 4 MPG. But, prem was $0.20 a gal then. Wait a min. Chrysler was paying $3.25 an hour then.
I have to buy a VW.

Yeah Jim, I remember those good ole days too. I could fill up my '70 Dodge Challenger R/T 440Mag for under $5.00. And I had a '66 VW Beetle at one time or another. But those days are long gone.

I remember my Dad saying how he used to get into the movies for $0.05, and they would give you a candy bar that was so big you had to brake in two to put it in your pockets.
Have we turned into our Fathers? DAMN

Re: Miles Per Gallon with A/C turned on....

I laugh when everyone reminisces about prices "back in the day."

If adjusted for inflation, gasoline is still relatively cheaper then what it was in the past.

If anyone really cares:

http://www.randomuseless.info/gasprice/adjusted.txt

That guy adjusted what he paid for gas since 79 back to 1979 prices.

Plus the people who can fork out the dough for a top of the line GMC Yukon XL Denali can most likely pay for the gas.

Hey, I'm not complaining. At least I can remember that far back. Memory has a tendency to fail you when you get older. BTW - I got a neighbor who has a Caddy Escalade and all he complains about are gas prices and he's carrying a hefty note on the Caddy (financed). Probably took on a second mortgage on the house. Plus he's always bumming gas off me for his lawnmower.

Well I'm talking about the gas prices of 1969 and 1970. When I got out the Army, there was a real gas war going on. Prem. was $0.20 a gal. Prices were changing so fast that most of the stations that painted their numbers, never had time for them to dry. They hired young kids to hold signs out in front of their places with the price. And when you had a 1970 Nova with a 350, 385 HP it was great. And the gas still had lead in it.
And what's really cool. We're still out there doing it. Have a friend that likes to say, "we maybe old, but they still can't catch us".
Everybody enjoy your rides, you'll get a chance to tell your Grandkids.

Until the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo. Then it all changed. Prices skyrocketed and it was nothing but waiting lines. I was working at a Shell station at the time and it was crazy. And then after 1974 with the new smog legislation unleaded fuel. And the end of the Vietnam War comes along whereby inflation went out of control. The rest is all history.

I wonder why previous years were omitted out of the statistics provided?

There was one benefit, however. You could pick up a musclecar for under $1,000 in 1974 and that included cars with LS6s, Hemis, and Magnums.

Re: Miles Per Gallon with A/C turned on....

Maybe the guy was a new economist fresh out of college or runs a business, thus requiring detailed logs for tax purposes. Who knows.

I'm currently working at a gas station to pay the bills while I am studying to be an accountant. The only people who complain about the fuel prices for the most part are the people who own the SUV's.

With regards to the total debt level, I would be interested to see what percentage of assets of people who have the big SUV, big house etc etc is debt compared to the more modestly living person.

SUV's are more of a status symbol then anything. At work with our big fuel account, the wife had an Escalade until the H2's came into widespread popularity. Then she rolled up in one as well. But that wife is another story to say the least.
