hooking a tach up into my del sol

hey guys need a little help here. i have a 1994 del sol.. i have a auto gage tach i wanna hook up to it. i had a freind tell me he knew what he was doing but i dont think he does. he said u have to hook the red wire to the positive side of the batterie, the negative on the negative side, the white to the fuse box/running lights, and the green wire to the back of the gage cluster.. but i dont think it worked. can neone tell me how to get the job done right. it has a shift lite

yup that's right. The red doesn't have to be directly on the battery (neither does the negative), just as long as it's at a power source. Check out autometer's website for the instructions in pdf form.

ok now do u know what wire he has to spice into or what not behind the gage? he hooked it all up like that but it didnt work, so i mean maybe there is a specific wire you need to hit in order for it to read the rpms on the tach

It will be a blue wire (not the one for the SRS either). No other wire behind the cluster will work, it has to be that specific wire. You should also be able to hook it up to the ECU at pin A21.
