Question Rear O2 sensor - P0158

Does anyone have a link to finding a manual for a 99 Maxima to check and repair and rear 02 sensor? My check engine light has been on for approx. 1 month, was recently disconnected by my local maintenance guy, but mentioned if it illuminates again, perhaps the sensor should be checked. ...so now, it's back on! Is it imperative that it be replaced pronto?

Are 99 SE's plagued w/ sensor problems? I've already had 2 replaced that relate to other areas.

The available manuals fulfill that need. Check the FSM's and zoom on your engine model. Forum is full of links...

Where do I find available manuals? Online? If so, which site? How much does it cost?

Is it easy to replace the O2 sensor(s)?

Re: Rear O2 sensor - P0158

First find out what a P0158 is.... Code reader should tell you. There are 2 rear sensors (bank 1 and bank 2) On my 01 SE, bank 1 is firewall side, bank 2 is radiator side. Neither one was too hard to change, just a little paitence snaking wire correctly. After I figured out which bank was which my CEL has not come back on (w/ a new O2 sens 450mls ago) but I've not taken the car for a long trip yet which seems to be when it (the CEL) illuminates.

Maxpad-Just ran your code (P0158) on software came up w/ 02 sensor high voltage bank 2 sensor 2. On my 01 this sensor is underneath slightly forward of motor just past pre-cat, 4 wire, it aims up tward the hood.

To RBB: My understndg is my Max has a Calif emissions system. Word came from my (trusting independent mech.) who last year had to do an emissions test since it's mandated now in PA. Anyhow, do you think an O2 sensor problem could be covered if miles are under 70K? I'm about 150 mi. shy of that. Anyhow, will chekc out a few links, if I can find info.

I'll probably go to my mech. to change the sensor. Don't have the mechanical expertise to do it myself.

Re: Rear O2 sensor - P0158

Nissan told me that only converters are covered under cal em. NOT O2 sensors. I have not heard of anyone getting O2 sen. covered unless Nissan installed it and its less than 1 y/o and less than 15k miles on it. O2 sensor is easy to change if you have ramps, O2 sensor socket, and wire ties. If you can change a spark plug, its similar.

O2 sensors

thnx for the info. I have ramps and wire ties. Just need to get the part.

Is there a particular brand that is better? Looks like the parts are w/i a $20-30 price range.

Re: Rear O2 sensor - P0158

That sounds low for O2 sens. I went to O2 sensors.com and the standard factory rear (4 wire) sensor was $85 and I got the O2sens socket for $25. $98 total in my mailbox. The brand I got was a walker. Don't think it matters too much. Nissan contrats bosch for factory ones.

What I meant by $20-30 was a price differential. Looked up prices on one of the sites and average was about $80-90 as you mentioned. Manuf. probably not a huge difference. Thnx
