pully question

I have an 04 gtp and wondering if the older gtp pully will work on an 04. I met up with a guy that has a 99 gtp he has a 3.4 in pully for $50 Also at what point will i need an intercooler and how is an intercooler get install on the factory supercharger? What kind of hp gain will I get with the 3.4 pully? thanks

South Florida Pulley has a pulley for your car that will fit 1997-2005. This is what they have to say;
) SFPH is the very FIRST company to Introduce and Manufacture aftermarket, smaller Press-On supercharger pulleys under 3.5" for all 97-Current Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and Buick GS Eaton Model 90 Supercharged vehicles in this country.
Here's their site.
http://www.southfloridapulleyhq.com/

You read HP gains from 10 to 25 HP. I think it's closer to 15.

I got the new pulley in and if you hold the petal to the floor the check engine light comes on at 90 mph. Do i have to program the computer? The car got alot more snap now. I think it made up for the 250 lbs of audio equipment. What else can I do?

Re: pully question

Could be a misfire. Any hesitation when it happens??

Go to autozone or find someone w/ a scanner and see what code is being set. Not usually a good thing to have that light coming on at full boost.

We've got guys in our local GP club running '04 GTPs with 3.4 pulleys with no problems and no re-programmed ECU/PCM. How are you handling the possibility of KR (knock retard)? What spark plugs and what's the gap? What brand and octane fuel are you running?

Thrasher CAI, DHP v1.0 ECU, Granatelli CAI Tuneable MAF,
3.25 SC pulley, Hi-Flow CAT, u-bend delete, 160 TS,
TB spacer, MSD 8.5mm wires, Autolite 104 spark plugs,
Goodyear Gatorback Serp. & SC Belt, Nitto NT555R Drag Radials

I am using 91 octaine, stock plugs, cone filter. I dont know what KR is. I didnt have Autozone scan the computer yet I disconnected neg termanal I will go tomorrow to check history. If i connect a laptop to my car can I adjust fuel, air, shift points, rev limiter and save changes so when I unplug the laptop the car wont go back to stock settings. I know I shouldnt mess with this stuff because I dont know what I am doing But I have to start some where. Thanks

Rob04GTP, I see two problems based on your description, the stock spark plugs and possibly the 91 octane fuel.

Knock retard (KR) is a typical problem a lot of L67/L32 GTP owners run into when swapping out the supercharger pulley. Detonation is being sensed and the knock sensor provides a signal to the ECU/PCM to adjust spark advance and timing respectively. That will be a problem with the stock ECU. There are ways to compensate for this without going to a re-programmed ECU. Via the spark plugs and the gap is one method. You can go one to two ranges colder. The object is to lower combustion chamber temperature.

In our local GP club we have one member with a 2004 GTP running a 3.4 pulley. He has the stock ECU and we're stuck with 91 octane premium in our area. Here's what he did based on advice from South Florida Pulley Company:

GoodYear Gatorback SC belt to minimize any possible slippage with the new pulley and the following is essential for KR:

Change out the factory sparkplugs and go one range colder NGK TR55IX and gap them .005 under the now .060 to .055 setting that comes with from the factory, to help lower cylinder temperatures and optimize wide open throttle response. You can safely go up to 2 ranges colder. Plus he uses octane boost periodically due to only having 91 octane premium gas in our area. They claim the NGK plugs work the best on a '04 GTP. I use Autolites but I have a L67.

Other than that no problems. A DHP v1.0 ECU or similar is not necessary unless you decide to drop down to a 3.25 pulley in the future.

If you connect a laptop you'll need software to do this. The best product, IMO, available to do your own programming is available at the link below but it costs $399.00 made by Digital Horsepower (DHP). But a reprogrammed ECU is a lot cheaper. Check this link at 3800performance.com:

http://www.3800performance.com/Merch...roduct_Count=0

If you want software just for odb-ii code reading or scanner for your laptop Autotap is a popular company.

I hope the info helps and others will probably weigh in to help you make a decision or confuse you further......lol. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. I think it might be cheeper to get a chip. Can you get me a link for one that I can trust? Also I got a link from this thread about mods and it said I can use mustang cobra 39lb injectors, is this true? Has any one done this? What are my stock injectors? Every thing is good now no engine light anymore I think the car needed to be reset. So I should us 93 octane? Right now my 0-60 is under 6 sec Its great. thanks

You can't go wrong with a re-programmed ECU like DHP's. We have all done business with these companies:

www.3800performance.com or

You can go direct with Digital Horsepower, Inc.

http://65.109.52.43/products.htm

Maybe someone else will weigh in on advice on the injectors or you can check with ZZ Performance.

If I had 93 octane premium pump gas in my area I would definitely use it. Good luck and enjoy!

What are my stock injectors?
The L32 fuel system has more differences aside from using 33# injectors compared to the 36#ers used in the L67. The fuel is run at a relatively high static pressure compared to the L67's boost correlated fuel pressure.

You wont need injectors on the 04+ until you start using a 3.1 pulley or smaller.

Cobra/Lightening 39lb injectors are a direct plug and play mod for the 04+GPs.

The 42# and 65# injectors sold by intense/zzperformance can be used(i have the 65#ers installed on mine) but you need to splice in the 04+ style injector connectors. You can purchase these at zzperformance.com/techedge.com.

For me the autolite103s(@.045)/104s(@.050-55) worked the best, I have used NGK TR6s and they worked fine too.

Hey there! If your going to get a reprogrammed PCM (computer) go here and click on NEWS > http://www.wait4meperformance.com/

You won't find a better deal anywhere! I have one in my 1997 GTP with 3.4' pulley, NGK TR6 plugs, etc... Works awesome!!!! Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I use the Autolites because they are cheaper than the NGKs and available at Walmart. What can I say, I'm a cheap bast$#d...lol.

After i get them in I have a 5 hour drive to get to wait4meperfomance for programing.
