Question 99 silverado w/4.3 question

I have had my 99 silverado in the shop 3 times in the last month due to the service engine light comming on. Each time it comes on it will start losing power and the engine will start bucking. the have told me it was the wires ( i replaced them) the next itme it was the injectors, this last time the fuel filter. The problem is the can't get it to repeat the problem at the service department. Also it only happens when it it raining or wet out. Has anyone had this problem or can help me?

Re: 99 silverado w/4.3 question

My 4.3L was doing that under heavy throttle. I never totally discovered what it was but since I have changed the fuel filter and spark plugs and it hasn't done it.

since it only happens when it rains, Do you think your distributor could be getting wet, or maybe the coil pack/s?

Re: 99 silverado w/4.3 question

That would be a possibility. I had my truck cutting out on the highway when it rained once.. then it wouldn't start. Turned out to be water in the distributor. It's a good idea to replace the cap ($30) and rotor ($13).

Re: 99 silverado w/4.3 question

Thanks all, I had the dealer check the cap & rotor they told me it was fine, do you think I should still replace them? Also they told me there was a set of aftermarket wires on it, could this be part of the problem?

ive heard the mass airflow sensor sometimes doesnt like rainy days. i wouldnt think aftermarket wires would affect it. maybe you could rent a code scanner and plug it and go drive around when it rains
