108,000 miles and going!

I just turned my '01 GT over to 108,000 miles. I ran it through the dealer for a 100,000 mile tune up. Put in new spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, pvs valve, tranny flush (even though I was a little uneasy about that and how it may affect the seals) and it is running so good right now. I need to replace my struts and shocks since I can feel every bump on the road. Do any of you have any suggestions on how to "quiet down" the feel of the car? Like specific brands of shocks or struts?

You have McPherson struts on all 4 wheels. A lot of us GT/GTP owners use the KYB GR2 gas. Monroe is adequate like the Sensa Trac or Reflex brands.

Tranny flush at 108K miles??? That's a sore subject in this forum. Regardless, good luck!

Re: 108,000 miles and going!

I wasnt excited about the tranny flush but it was shifting hard between 2nd and 3rd gear. Now it is as smooth as can be. I have heard lots of bad things about flushes but so far mine has worked well. Thanks all for the strut info, sorry I flamed the board with my tranny flush. If one is to do one, what mileage is best to do it at? Earlier? Later?

Oh no its not a problem concerning the tranny flush and flaming the board. Its just a hotly debated subject going way back in the GP forum and will probably be debated for years to come. You have to do what works best for you and your given circumstances. All you can do is cross your fingers and hopefully there are no side effects from the flush. IMO - The KYB GR2s are a good deal considering and normally go for about $229.00 for all four not counting labor. Good luck!

is this strut and shock change something i can do? I am pretty machanically inclined but I am imagining i will have to get the car aligned when I am done.

IMO - A DIY'er can do the work. Recommend getting a Haynes or Chilton manual to help guide you along. I've done a '97 GTP, '99 Regal LS and '02 Olds Alero in my garage. I start on the front first and the rears afterwards. You'll need to rent or purchase a strut coil spring compressor from like Autozone, etc (I hate mentioning that name).

Afterwards it is highly recommended to have a good alignment shop verify alignment and all 4 wheel tracking. There's really not much to adjust when struts are swapped out. There is very very minor slop adjustment on camber but nothing significant. I've never seen toe in/out off after a strut job. Good luck!
