2001 humming

Did a search and not too sure if my question has been answered yet.

I have a 2001 jimmy 4wd, 115kms.

Above 40km I can hear a high frequency humming noise comming from the front. The noise is dependant on vehicle speed not engine. It gets louder the faster I go. The noise is progressively getting worse. I can feel the high freq vibration in the stearing wheel.

I have jacked the front and the wheels/hubs feel secure. (no wobble ) Tire pressures are ok as well.

I don't think my 4wd is engaged, - back end slides around when I gun it on gravel.

Is this a bearing?

Thanks for the help.

Re: 2001 humming

Sounds like the hub bearings... But I would also look at tire wear and balancing as well.

Is this something I can check for or is it a "throw parts at it" kind of fix/check?

Thanks
