Re: windstar wont start

I am going to bet a bad connection in the starter circuit or to the starter solenoid. This includes battery connections, solenoid connections, starter motor wiring and ground paths

Re: windstar wont start

Your profile says you have a 1996 Windstar.
There is a TSB for 1995 & 1996 windstars that deals with non-start..."after heatsoak" in below freezing temps. After heatsoak would be after driving for a while....and it is all warmed up.
The problem was ONLY during freezing temps.
The problem was caused by the fuel pump relays...which on the 96 are inside the Constant Control Relay Module (CCRM). I bought the part online from Millennium Ford in Seattle Washington.
My local dealer quoted me $106 (US) for the replacement.....I got it from Millennium for $75 plus shipping.
I posted pictures of the replacement process with my pictures at http://community.webshots.com/album/201931518cScpNK

The CCRM is located Kinda behind the Driver side headlight....a little lower. If you look down in front of the battery.....behind the headlight.....you will just barely be able to see it. If you look up from under the car.....it is above...and just forward of the radiator drain valve.

The CCRM has 1 big plug on it. The PCM sends signals to the CCRM, which contains relays for Fuel Pump, Fan high speed, Fan Low speed, and A/C compressor.

The part numbers are posted in my pictures...The newer unit has improved relays that are better sealed against the elements. This problem will NOT light up the CEL...as the fuel pump is not monitored during start-up.

I replaced mine to correct an issue with my radiator cooling fans.....they would come on for the AC function....but would not come on by temperature activation. I posted a question here and on a FORD site....and did not get any solutions.....so I figured that I would change the CCRM out....as I had the old style. It corrected my fan issue..... I did not have the non-start issue to start with.
