Final Comparison...

Hi, you might have seen my other thread and I've finally got it narrowed down to 3 cars, the Nissan 240SX, the Nissan Z31T, and the Ford Fox Body Mustang, so I thought I might make a new thread with a poll. So, which of these three fine cars meets these requirements the best: reliable and can be made into a pretty fast car? Just to let you know, I'm mostly going to be on surface streets so handling doesn't have to be top notch. Finally, I would like a car that I can drive all day and throw in the garage and expect it to start when I turn the key. Thanks.

Re: Final Comparison...

well since, u said handling doesnt have to be top notch and the foxbody mustang gt is a fast car stock, and with parts a dime a dozen it can become a really fast car for not too much.....but for handling and reliability i would go with the 240sx, but i say go with the foxbody

Okay, thanks. Keep 'em coming boys! One quick question, would you say the Mustang is very reliable? Thanks.

Re: Final Comparison...

Hmmmm...so it's not really a car that a can use for a night, throw it into the garage, and expect it to turn on the next morning? Is it a very hard car to learn on? What level of difficulty would you say most of the repairs that you have to do on the cars are? Thanks for being so patient.

yeah the fox body mustang is a pretty simple car to work on...like i said in the other posts, i find it a good car to learn about cars.

the 300zxT is probably the most complicated engine bay of the bunch...and it is not really an easy car to work on. the 240sx is pretty simple though...

i would expect all cars to be about the same reliability...the 240sx maybe edging out the other 2 but with both of the other cars, your actually getting some performance.

Re: Final Comparison...

you will get better gas milage with 240 and i think that they're the most fun to drive out of that group. Because it's easy to make fast car the difficulty lies in the fun to drive catagory. The problem being finding one for decent price and in decent condition

Re: Final Comparison...

I already presented my argument in the other thread, but I'll just sum it up here.

240SX. Yeah, it performs the worst out of the bunch when stock, but it's got plenty of potential in the aftermarket scene, when you're prepared both financially and in skill to start tuning it up. It's cheap to buy, easy to find, reliable, able to take a massive beating, and has plenty of readily available parts and information. It also gets the best gas mileage of the bunch by a fair margin.

The 5.0 Mustang would be my next pick. Compared to the 240SX, you're trading some agility and reliability for lots of straight-line power. The powertrain in this car is perfect for a fast street car: very durable, easy to work on, and able to make more than enough power for the streets. The gas mileage is pretty poor, though, and the reliability isn't quite as good as the two Nissans, so it gets second place.

Lastly would be the Z31 Turbo. Don't get me wrong, I love the Z31 Turbo as a sports car. It's good-looking, performs very well, and is quite unique. However, if you plan on driving it all day and then tossing it into the garage, you're headed for breakdown city. Turbocharged engines require meticulous maintenance to keep them running in top-shape, and the Z31 Turbo is already a pretty old car. If you take good care of it, it'll last you forever, but for the kind of driving it sounds like you plan on doing, an all-out sports car is just not practical or economical at all.

1. 5.0 (Its aftermarket is second to none, I think some people are underrating it on reliability, 5.0s have been known to be 300,000 mile cars as long as you keep it maintained, sure Mustangs are out on the road in big groups but the 5.0s are no longer made and the Foxs seem to be slowly disappearing, get a nice exhaust and EVERYBODY's head will turn )

2. 240SX (I really like these cars and if it weren't for the 5.0 it'd have my first pick, they're very good at handling and have a nice things said about them from everybody you talk to)

3. Z31 (don't know much about them so...)

To sum it up I'd pick the 5.0 but between it and the 240SX you can't lose either way.
