Hi, I'm a newbie to this stuff, but i need some help. I just purchased some reverse glow white gauges to install on my 1999 Honda Accord.
I was wondering if there is anyone who can give me very specific instructions on how to wire these in. The power inverter that came with it has one red wire and one black wire, as well as an on/off switch. There are tons of wires behind the gauge cluster so i dont know where to wire this in. I want it to simply reverse when my headlights and dashlights are on, and to simply turn off along with those same lights. Any ideas or instructions for me? Thanks |

Re: Reverse Glow Gauge Install Help!!!
Any existing wiring for gauge illumination should be fine. Find a pair that go to the bulbs in the cluster, and splice in. Or if you want, take your headlight dimmer switch out, and find the same wires (by color) that go to the gauge lighting. That would probably be the best point to get power from. Red pos, black neg.
If the wiring color on the vehicle's wiring isn't coded so you can tell right away which is which, you can ground your black lead from the inverter to any good ground, any metal dash support is good, and try the red wire on the suspect gauge light wire. If it is neg, nothing will happen, if pos, it will come on (with the lights on). then operate the dimmer to make sure you have the right wire, and then run your wiring the way you want it, and splice permanently. As long as you make sure your inverter is grounded (neg) before doing any experimenting, you can't hurt it.

Well, it's obvious that the black wire is the ground. What I did with my
positive was connect it to a fuse in the fuse box. Just connect it to one of the fuses that's only activated when the car is in the "ON" position. You can run it to wone of the power windo fuses. The only reason why I don't suggest splicing into one of the wires in the cluster is because I know a few people when has blown their gauge cluster. Actually, I think it's called a Flux Capicator or something. And that can be expensive to replace.
