Serious No BS question (no smartalic bull here)

yes i mispelled im in a bit of a rush..

i have a 98 avenger es 2.5 v6, I wanted to get a Trans AM Ws6 but my parents decided it was too fast for me...(im 16) I paid for the car with my own money so I think its only fair that i at least like it. Its not a bad car it came with 18"S 88k miles burnt orange, i got it for $3,850 not bad.

What I want to know is what would 3-5 thousand dollars do performancewise for my car? I was looking at the Exile kits but i want a more in depth prediction on how much power i can put out.

More simply put, could i get my Avengers 0-60 time under 5.5 seconds with that money? (NO NITRUS OXIDE NO NO NO, ITS ILLIGAL HERE) is there and engine that will fit (without too much modification) that can put out 200 or greater horsepower AND will support a turbo as well?

Put it this way im more of an american muscle guy... if i were 18, id be in my Black 1999 Pontiac Trans/AM WS6... but thats not an option. SO please help me out.

and one last question... will a turbo kill my car after 50k miles? someone told me that was so... sorry to be of trouble but dont let me trow my money away please thank you.

Re: Serious No BS question (no smartalic bull here)

well you should have bought a I4 because the v6 cant have a manual tranny, and the 4 takes really well to turbos. im not all that familiar with that particular v6 but avenger guys always tell me they like the 4 better. so maybe stick a 4 cyl in it and turbo it, itll be plenty fast enough then

If your parents decided you can't have a Firebird then you certainly won't be able to own an Avenger that does 0-60 in under 5.5. They'll never let you do it, so don't be silly.

So a s you were... you say the 4 cyl. is better... 2 questions

the 4 cyl. would be the eclipse 2.0 thats 210 hp off the top of my head. Well would I just swap my current engine with the 2.0 eclipse turboed engine like a direct bolt on? And about how much would the cost of the labor of the swap be.. not the cost of the donor engine? thanks

Like Stang said, there is no manual tranny for the 2.5L V6 so you will be stuck with the auto unless you do a swap. You can swap any engine you want into the engine bay, it is only a matter of time and money and how much you have of both. However, the only engine that would bolt in without much modification would be the I4 engine.

The problem, in my eyes, with doing any swap is that it is going to be a pain in the ass. You're pretty much going to want to find a donor car with the I4 and swap EVERYTHING from under the hood. All the wiring, the transmission, axles, engine, pretty much everything. Then you will have to swap out the center console and have to add a clutch pedal among some other things to convert your car to a manual.

All that will pretty much eat up your $3,000 - $5,000. There are people that have turbo-charged the 2.5L. After all they aren't that weak. They just need some help down low. Before you think of turbo-charging do a compression test on the engine. As long as it has good pressure to all cylinders then you should be fine. As for the engine lasting, well that depends on you. As long as you get the tuning down and don't run too much boost then the engine should be no less reliable than before.

Take a look on CarDomain.com and ask some of the turbo-charged V6 Avenger and Sebring owners what they did and get some ideas. I have a 1998 Sebring as my daily driver and I plan to keep it pretty much stock. They aren't fast cars, and it will never be up to par with a WS6. However, they don't hold to the road like glue.

This just isn’t a great car to work on as far as modding goes. There are a ton of other cars out there that take VERY well to mods that are cheaper that I am sure your parents wouldn’t object to. However you decide to go, good luck, but my suggestion would be to go with a different car but if you must then I would turbo the V6.

Good luck.

Re: Serious No BS question (no smartalic bull here)

im not sure what your thinkin about now, but it looks like ur gonna turbo the v6 or swap in the I4, that engine is easier to mod and takes really well to turbos, but that option also requires more work... but then you could also swap in a manual tranny which will make it a lil faster too. ive heard of stock 4cyl manual avengers hitting 15.9 stock in the 1/4. but like polygon said... they dont handle all that great, my mustang stock outhandles my bros avenger stock.

Actually, I was saying that they handle pretty damn good. I have yet to come across a car that can hold a turn with my Sebring. They have a pretty good suspension on the LXi Sebrings and ES Avengers.

ok tell me this

what would be the better decision for looks/cost/power? (by power i mean in a straight up stoplight showdown type senerio)

1.sticking with my avenger wich in the end after a bodykit, paint, turbo kit, brakes, exhaust?, will cost about 9 grand including the cost of the car (i have some connections i get decent deals)

2.getting a 1991 or 1993 3000gt stock for 7500 to 8500 dollars.
i do not plan on doing any engine mods to a car that runs a 5.3 0-60 maybe an exhaust system and an intake thats about it to me theres no need unless I was going on a track.

whats the better deal?
my friends tell me i should get a diffrent car that putting money into this would be a waste. But then again they drive civics..... dont even get me started.. lol. I just want to be able to have a nice looking car that has speed when i want it. I just want to beat/keep up with stock Stang Gts, 3kgts,z28s, the new evos, 350s, and G35s.

thanks

Re: Serious No BS question (no smartalic bull here)

well the avenger is a very nice looking car IMO. id stick with it cause i like em, and they have a fairly decent aftermarket. im not sure how much boost a stock v6 in that car can hold, but id turbo it and youll be pretty fast. idk if you could keep up with stock stang gts or not, probably depends on your psi. as for body kits, may i suggest the TC2 front bumper. also something you might want to think about, my bro did it and i thought it was cool, he painted the tail lights where the light doesnt shine anyway, you know how it has that black peice that runs all the way across the back, that what im talkin about mostly. you can see that TC2 bumper here http://store1.yimg.com/I/racerwheel_1847_41119456

and another thing, if you do suspension mods, go with springs and that type of thing first, the strut bars that dont attach to the firewall really dont do much. i can help you out a lot with this stuff if u need it

Are you talking about a 3000GT VR4 or an SL? I know that the base model will barely edge you out in a race, I know because I've raced one. Anyhow, if you're talking about a VR4 then, no question, go with the VR4. I had a friend with a Stealth R/T TT. He let me drive it every now and then so I got to drive it stock, I got to drive after some minor mods, and then I got to drive it with some major mods such as a turbo upgrade and more boost. I must say that I will have one as my next project. If had gone with some bigger injectors and had the car tuned right it would have been even more of a beast. I remember racing a Camaro SS with it. I wasn't even launching and I was just killing him over and over again.

Here is a tip, get a Stealth, same car but cheaper. The only difference is looks.

stage 2 can take 10, stage 3 15-18 psi

sounds cool.
the 1st thing im going to try to do is weight reduction. That car aint light, you all know that. Is there a way i can cut weight but still keep my stock interior look? Like i like my seats, dash, trim it all looks really nice i dont wish to tamper with that.

do you like my rims as they are now or should i change them as well
