speaker installation

i have a 90 chevy 1500 ext cab. i was wondering about putting a pair of 5x7's i have in my doors. i took off my panels and theres really no open place they would fit unless i cut out some of the metal. well i thought bout it but i really donno where a good place would be at to cut with out hitting anything. i also have power windows if that helps with anything. has anyone tried this, or can anyone help me out? i think ill get much better sound if i put the speakers in the door, bc they dont fit in the dash which i knew they wouldnt, but the speakers were free so i couldnt pass it up. thanks guys

<-- Stereo Installer

hey haows it goin. yea ya know what they wernt too smart with sound quality when they built these trucks. but any ways i have installed some 6½" speakers at the far left of the door (driver side) about half way up but! i used a 1" spacer and it was a nice install only thing was with the door closed the speaker was pointing right at your thigh. so i would suggest getting a "door box" it is about 6" sticking out of the door but you buy one for 6X9's and can mount them anywere on the door. i have a 94' C1500 and they have the 4x6's but bought some clarions pro-audios and a kicker amp and they sound nice and LOUD (ear ringing loud!) here a pic i found on the net too hope it helps. http://prx.dimensionalstorm.net/ma/images/speakers.jpg

Re: speaker installation

ya buy a spacer and you are still gonna have to cut out a holebut it dont have to be perfect. the spacer screws in with self-tapping screws then the speaker screws through the spacer into the door. also check out that link that guy put a 6½" speaker right there perfect spot. its an easy job. use a dremil to make the hole. make the hole big enough for the back of the speaker lip to fit in it but NOT bigger than the speaker or spacer than u will have a fat gap. its easy start small then work with it.
