CRX tank size?

I'm wondering on the 1989 CRX Si gas tank size. I'm under the impression that it's 35L, which is basically what I put into it when its nearly empty. but I've been getting some crazy MPG numbers if I base it on the 35L tank. For example, the distance I can go on hiway driving is a tad over 700kms, and in city driving, my current tank is a hair under 500kms and I can still do a few more trips before the needle is fully on the red "E" stripe. According to some calculations, this gives me a hiway MPG of 47.71 and a city MPG of 34.27!

I'm not complaining at all, but I was just wondering why my 16 year old, Si version of this wonderful car is seriously outperforming the manufacturer's claims of 33mpg hiway, and 28mpg city.

Nate

Re: CRX tank size?

According to the Helms it's about 12 US gallons/45L for the STD, DX, and Si. The HF is about 10.5 gallons/40L

ive never been able to put more than 11.5 gallons in one. and that was after draining the gas tank to change a fuel pump..

Re: CRX tank size?

I usually am able to go close to 400 miles, and it takes 10 gallons to fill it back up. Usually only go 55-60 on highways, but short distances. Most I"ve put in was 10.7 gallons.

with only a stupid cheap-o high airflow mod done to my crx dx with stock engine, i get roughly 34mpg city miles and, 38mpg highway. now, if i'm on the interstate from start to finish running an entire tank of gas i have gotten as high as 42mpg, but no higher. and, i had some fuel injector cleaner running through as well (my car seems to SIP gas when i'm running fuel injectoir cleaner through it)

my gas gauge is off, and i've never bothered to run the car dry with a spare can of gas with me just to see roughly how far below E the needle will go and how many miles i can go.

i never get lower than 30 mpg. if i estimate 10 gallons in the tank (i know there's more, but that last gallon is saved to get me TO the gas station, so i don't count it in my math) i should get no less than 300 miles with no problem. i ough to be able to do somewhere in the neighborhood of 350 with how much interstate driving i do.

long story short, i've always been afraid of running out of gas and i fill up right when my needle touches the E, and i've never put more than 8.5 gallons in it when i fill up. i've never driven more than, say, 270 miles on a tank for that reason.

from the sounds of it i'm filling up way to soon.

guess that's better than running out of gas, though...

You reference Liters and Kilometers and then compare Mile per Gallon. Did you convert these before calculating your MPG? It does in fact look like you are getting some really good gas mileage though

I never put in more than 9.1 gallons. I thought the tank was only a 10 gallon tank. My needle has never dropped into E and I've been going 325 miles before putting in 8.5-9 gallons. But I agree, better to fill it back up than to run out of a gas and feel stupid...
