gotta beat the r/t
ok im tryin this again cuz it didnt go thru the first time. my computer is gettin ready for the scrap heap. anyways... a friend of mine has a dakota r/t with an intake and full exhaust- headers, cats, all that good stuff. we wanna race and im pretty sure im gonna lose but i wanna know how bad. has anyone actually ever raced one? i believe he runs 15 flat or just under that. so i guess wut im askin is wut exactly its gonna take to get my truck into 14s? its a stock 4.8 reg cab 2wd. if i do the nelson tune, wut else will i need? im wonderin if maybe the tune and an intake/exhaust wont do it. im gettin ready to split the exhaust to tru duals w/ 2 flowmasters. (go loud or go home baby). i cant decide if itll be cheaper to build the 4.8 or buy an LS1 and do that swap. im thinkin i could get a used one for probly wut id spend makin the 4.8 sumthin worth talkin about.

it might cost a bot more to do a motor swap but if you got the money the bigger motor is better in the long run. thats my opinion

My best time with my old 4.8L with superchips programmer, airaid intake, and throttlebody spacer was a 15.4.
Now with the motor swap to a 6.0L, I'm really close to netting my 11s on motor, so it's definately worth the money. As far as how to beat the R/T, do the intake, Nelson tune, exhaust, LT headers, and torque converter upgrade. He won't be able to read your license plate in the 1/4.

Re: gotta beat the r/t
cool thanks guys. slopro, a setup like urs is the reason i bought my truck. ive always liked the idea of swappin to the bigger engine in a 1500, so im not surprise a bunch of u have. its not gonna be long before i get the thing to the track and get some timeslips to see just wut itll do stock. then ill have a better idea of wut i need. wish me luck

Re: gotta beat the r/t
I think the 6.0L is one of the better engines GM has made. If you do a swap get one like comes in the escalades, 345hp for $3700. Also the is no way in hell a dakota with just intake and exhaust would run 15's.

R/T's aren't shit. I raced a single cab in my truck and hung neck and neck with him.

Re: gotta beat the r/t
he runs 14.9 i know that. so maybe he does have more in the truck than just the intake/exhaust. basically wut i was tryin to say is that its still pretty mild. its not like the truck is seriously built. i just had to respond cuz im seriously gettin antsy about gettin this truck to the strip. i figured just talkin about it will help to pass the time lol.

Re: gotta beat the r/t
The one they put in escalades is a LQ9 tag i think.

I understand that SlowProcess and others may have used the LQ4 because they want to "add air" in the future - and the LQ9's compression probably doesn't allow that to happen but the LQ4 does. If you aren't going to be airing out your engine in the future - then the LQ9 is probably the choice (though not the cheapest route to go) LOL. White Lightening |

Yes I believe Slow and others would use the LQ4 for turbo applications - whereas the LQ9 would be the heart of an all motor truck. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=360785 White Lightening |
