Re: Amsoil 0-30 oil
If you get 18 mpg and use 15 gal of your tank (typical for your vehicle), then you get 270 miles per tank. An additional 10 miles per tank means it increased your mileage by 4%. That is attributable to the decrease in viscosity by itself. Not reflective of the quality of the oil and IMO, nothing worth buying an expensive motor oil for. Buy any brand of 0W-30 oil and I bet you get the same results.

Re: Amsoil 0-30 oil
You are probably right in that there is probably not a better oil than what AMSOIL sells. The important question is: Can I buy an oil that is indistinguisable from AMSOIL, in regards to engine lubrication, for much less money? If you don't examine this question carefully, you are blindly buying something only because it costs more and this provides a sense of security. In this case, you are wasting money. This type of false security is common in cars for cold-air intakes, ignition components, etc. Once you get above a certain quality, there is no benefit and you only pay for marketing or appearance, getting nothing functionally better in return.
Alot of people have different opinions than you on whether AMSOIL oil is any measurably better than some other oils. Here's a few thousand: http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi I used to work in ARCO lubricant R&D and I can tell you that alot of guys on theoildrop know what they are talking about. Some don't, but alot do.
