alot of things can cause it to turn on. you should take it over to autozone if you have one near you. they'll check it for you for free, and they can also reset it for you

Re: resetting Maintenance Required light

Helpful hints on decoding fault codes:

http://www.allpar.com/fix/80s-codes.html

Chysler computer codes (80-95 Chysler's):

Chysler faults codes are stored in the computer for up to 50 ignition starts. Each code is two digits.

To obtain codes: Turning the ignition key on-off-on three times (don't start the engine) will put the
computer into diagnostic mode. Watch the "check engine" light. Count the flashes for each digit which is followed by a pause between digits. Two digits to a code with the end of the list being code 55.

To reset the codes, either turn the ignition key on-off-on 50-55 times (don't start the engine) or disconnect then reconnect the battery. Of course, if you haven't fixed the problem that caused the code, the code will just reoccur.

Re: resetting Maintenance Required light

I'm so sorry, my previous reply was in error. I thought you were refering to the Malfunction Indicator light when in fact you have the Maintaince Required Idiot light on.

The Maintainance Required light is my pet peeve with Chrysler designers. The light comes on based on mileage - somewhere between 70k - 80k miles. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the car. It was Chrysler intent to have their vehicle's emmission control systems checked out at periodic intervals. My peeve is that this checkup is at owner's expense (because you take it to a garage to check for why a red light is on and to get the irritating idiot light off).

There is a reset switch located somewhere under the driver's dash in a hard to reach area to turn off the light. A mechanic would know the details of where. I don't know what it looks like, just know it is there someplace.
Some posters suggest placing a piece of tape over the light. My solution was to remove the light bulb. I think I had problems removing the trim to get at the bulb, so I just broke the glass bulb instead.

Re: resetting Maintenance Required light

There is not a switch for this year model. It has to be hook up to scan tool to be reset. Not sure if Auto Zone has the right scanner or not. Since I have my own I never have ever check to see what kind they have.
Prior to the 90 model there was a emr module that you could reset.

Talking Re: resetting Maintenance Required light

Hi, I'm new on this site, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to reset the check engine light on a 2000 Honda Accord?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Re: resetting Maintenance Required light

you are in the dodge forum but you need to go to a auto parts store or shop and have them check the codes with a scanner and have them reset. thats about the only way to do it on the newer OBD II systems. most places unless you take it to the dealer will do it for free
