Any Ideas ?????

hello everyone,,,had kind of a strange thing happen the other day and was looking for everyones input...i have a 95' aurora with about 100,000. i've owned the vehicle for about two years..a few days ago i went out and started the car and it made a backfiring noise from the enging compartment..at that moment the check engine light came on and the car began running EXTREMELY rough..it was almost non-driveable..it would stall frequantly and the rpm's were all over the place..i drove the car down to the local mechanic and he immediately thought a vacuum line was the probable cause..after inspecting, vacuum lines all looked ok..he then attempted to scan vehicle and pull the trouble code, but dide'nt have the correct scanner for a 95'...i drove the vehicle back home where it continued stalling and running extremely rough..when i got home i turned vhicle off went inside for about half hour, came back out and restarted vehicle...check engine light was off and vehicle was running perfect.any ideas ?????

Re: Any Ideas ?????

Sounds like the EGR valve may have been sticking. It will cause those symptoms and can "unstick" its self. Do a search on here and you find the info for about the valve and how to clean it.
