Re: Dex_cool only with green antifreeze!!!!!

Both coolents work just fine and despite what others will say will mix just fine. The only problem is that when mixed you WILL lose the extended life properties of dex-Cool. Do you have any idea how long the regular stuff has been in there? If not Id change it to be on the safe side but it depends on you wich coolent you repace it with. They both work, you just have to change the old stuff more often.

hi,,the first thing you want to do is get all the old coolant out and start from scratch..i did this to my 95' aurora last summer..under the radiator there is a valve you can open to drain coolant from the radiator..turn valve counter clock wise and drain till no more collant comes out..re-tighten...ad plain water to the revisor until radiator is full again.put cap back on and run engine with heater on full.run engine for several minutes to allow water to circulate throughout motor..after engine cools down, drain coolant from radiator again...KEEP REPEATING this till clear water runs from radiator..REMEMBER to run engine for several minutes to allow water to run through engine block...when plain water runs from radiator, drain and re-tighten valve,,add pure coolant back into the revisor..water will remain in the block so just add straight coolant into revisor untill full..

Your engine wasnt designed to use dex-cool. Dex-cool just has a different chemical composition to resist the build up of acids for a longer period of time, 5 years or 150,000 miles. Using the old stuff is still completly safe to do as long as you remember to change it at the correct time. You can go to any of the web-sites of anti-freeze makers and they all will say the same.
