Hi guys, I've got a big favor to ask someone
I'm trying to import my 81 rabbit from Canada to the US. To do so I need a letter from VW allowing the importation. But to get this letter I need to have the engine family code. The sticker has been removed (probably swapped hoods years ago). I've tried the dealer but they are useless Can someone look under their hood and give me the engine code for the 1.7l? Its listed on the yellow sticker The code is 11 characters long and should start like: EN 1.7XXXXXXX I'm missing whats in the X's. Thanks for the help |

I won't give you my whole engine code, and I hope noone else does...
that would not be a good idea, to have two floating around, but I will look it up in a junkyard or talk to the Vdub dealer here... I am sure they will be a lil more helpful. PM or email me your VIN so I can have them look it up by that. Is it the original motor? If not, the VIN won't help. I have a 1.8GTI anyway, so that won't help you... I know a bunch of the dealer people around here, so that may help lean toward our favor. What exactly is it you need... |

Apparently VW needs the engine family code off of the yellow sticker under the hood and it should be 11 characters long. And I'm probably not right about my guess above. (which also has me question, why VW wouldn't know which engines were put in which cars, but thats another story) The engine is the stock 1.7l. I'll PM you the VIN to see if you can help me out. Thanks |
