Yamaha YZR 500 Marlboro
I started this YZR500 about ten years ago, maybe more.
I used Floquil Glossing Shield to protect the Testors fluorescent red as I was having problems with it coming out burnt looking after clear coating with Testors Top Cote. Well, the Glossing Shield was unstable and cracked under the clear, I waited months then years hoping it would stabilize as I sanded out the fissures then repeatedly recleared it, only to have it crack more within a week or so. I boxed it up, an almost finished model, and forgot about it. I came across it night before last and hoping the paint had finally stabilized, sanded it out one more time and shot some urethane clear on it. It appears to have worked, for now... Sadly I don't know if the bike is supposed to be fluorescent red, (the kit calls out regular red), I went on the advice of a friend who is no longer around, and I used Testors Classic White, which is yellowish to start, but with all the subsequent coats of Top Cote, and age, it is even yellower, giving it a vintage of sorts. The bike is built out of the box with a few extra detail decals. It represents the early version without the fairings around the handlebar grips... - Mark ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Yamaha YZR 500 Marlboro
Nice work Mark!
To bad for clear coat. Testors clears are no good for white or siimlar colors, how you already said. It have some amber in it and it get yellow over the time. It's even yellow in bottle too. :-)

Re: Yamaha YZR 500 Marlboro
So, you couldn't stand it, could you?! "Well, I've just finished two RCV:s, why don't I slam another bike together in a day or two" ;-)
Fun to finish off something started that long back. I must say your painting skills have been great for over a decade... best regards Joel

I am surprised I was able to finish it so quickly, but with 90-95% of the work already done...
For the record I have no cycles started or under construction at this moment, we'll see how long I can hold off starting one while I try to finish some of the other models I have under construction... - Mark |

Mark,
The model looks great, regardless. Can you post a few pictures of your model room/display cases and work area? I'd like to see what you have built all these years. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. Hossain |

My showroom is difficult to photograph, lots of mirror and glass, but it displays well in person. Next time you are down for the TamiyaCon, maybe I can show you in person... - Mark
