What to do?

Hi, I have a 2000 Dodge Neon. I want to make it fast but it seems like nothing is working. So far I have added an Short ram intake, OBX header and down pipe, 2.25" exhaust pipes, straight through muffler, under drive pulley, 7.5mm plug wires, NGK Spark plugs,160 degree thermostat, and Upgraded coil pack. It is an 3 speed auto.(which sucks) Here are the Stats

Best:
60 Feet 2.608
1/8 mile 11.536
MPH 62.56
1/4 mile 17.776
MPH 78.48

That was even power braking at 2500rpms
For those that don't know what "power braking" is its when you hold the brake pedal down hard as you can, and give it so gas to rev it up at the same time.

I don't know if this is normal or if its my car.
What can I do to make it faster?(besides transmission/engine swap, or a turbo)

I would like to get a new car but this car is paid off already, and plus I don't have that much money since i'm going to college.

So please give me some ideas. Thanks

Realistically there isnt going to be much you can do to make it fast. You started with a not so fast car....... You could go f/i........ or maybe some nitrous..... How fast do you want to pay?

Well unfortunately you are going to be stuck with a slow car, unless you do some major mods. Mods like cam, cam gear, a real cold air intake, not the short ram, bigger pistons, and so on if you just want bolt-ons. The best way to get quicker is to do what you said you didn't want to do, ATX->MTX swap. It really isn't that difficult to do and can probably be done for less that $500 if you do it yourself. But for an extra $250 you can start spraying w/nitrous.

If you are talking HP, it depends on what other mods you are running. The cam can add, let's say between 5-15 HP. Again though it depends on what other mods you are running. Keep in mind, if you upgrade your cam, then you will have to upgrade your valve springs also.

Well I want to put a SRT-4 engine in my car but I don't know if it will fit. When I looked at my friend's SRT-4 the motor mounts look like they are in the same place. But there is more to it like changeing my auto to an manual, Fuel pump, and maybe new axles. It sounds like it would be cheaper to put an SRT-4 engine in then to get another car.

I am still thinking about putting ported heads with cams in but if I do that it will be pointless once I do put the SRT-4 engine in.

Does anyone know how much this will cost or can the SRT-4 engine even fit?

I just installed a cane 158-0010 camshaft and calve springs and retainers my mods are only intake, magnaflow muffler, polyurethane inserts in all mounts, and a custom hood to get fresh air in the intake.
I recently installed new.
piston rings
rod bearings
intake valves
cane 158-0010 camshaft
bush platinum 4 spark plugs

my car doesnt 'feel' got much power after that actually it feels the same than before when I only had intake and muffler.

Re: What to do?

You need to take out the #10 cam, and put in a #14 cam. The #10 won't do much, but the #14 will after tuning it w/a dyno. As far as the other things, you put on, none will yield any additional HP. You're car should run better, but you didn't add any HP mods. One more thing, lose the platinum plugs and go with the stock champions. The neon doesn't benefit at all from the added sprak.

The ATX->MTX is easier than you think. It would take about a weekend if you don't have any experience and nothing brakes on you, but it can be done. An SRT engine will fit, but you have to do some major modifying. It isn't a direct bolt on like some people say it is. The turbo on the other hand, is a direct bolt on to a DOHC neonm and will bolt onto a SOHC neon w/an adapter.
