I have a 99 Astro van and the passenger power windows will go 2-3 inches up or down when pressing either driver side or PS button then stop (as if no more power). Repressing the button does not move window. If you wait 2-3 minutes then the windows will move another few inches and stop again. Repressing again does nothing until you wait.
What is the cause? What do I test? Phil |

Yes , it sound like the motor thermal protection is getting triged, basicly you have to change the motor, but is posible that window is kind of lock with something, or the mechanical part inside the door is not well lubricated, so be sure to check why this is happening... if the same happend to more windows at the same time, then is other issue....

Re: 99 Power window problems
My driver's side window was doing that. Had to have the motor replaced. Luckily it was under warranty at the time.
Now my passenger's side is doing it. Lovely. |

Power window
My drivers door window is doing this, It only seems to give me trouble if I let the window go all the way down, If I stop it before it is all the way down it will go up just fine. Is there another problem or is the only fix to replace the motor?

Re: Power window
I replaced the motor in my 97 Astro, drivers side, about a year ago. Wasn't very hard. Motor from Auto Zone for about $20. Two screws in door handle and carefully remove inside door panel. Motor is held in place by 4 pop rivets. Auto Zone had pop rivet gun with rivets for $12 if you don't have one. There is a plastic gear in the motor that wears out. Mine would make a racket when it hit just the right position and the window hung up. I could wiggle the window by hand and get the motor to catch and move the window again. Figured I would get caught needing to lock the door and the window would stick in the down position.

Re: 99 Power window problems
Yeah, motor is gettin a little warm. While your in the door its a good idea to spray down the door window guides with a wet graphite or a lithium grease after your done, it helps for a smoother ride up and down and creates less tension on your motor. Try spraying some WD-40 down the window guides and see if it helps any, if not the motor is to worn out already.
