Exclamation I dont know what to get help me!

im torn between 3 trucks the f150, the 99-02 silverado and the 99-02 gmc sierra truck they all seem to be awesome trucks when you mod them up and I got about 12k to spend im doing lots of research and im not drawing up any conclusions to anything although I can see that the silverado forum seems to be the most active between the three and you guys dont seem to have to many proplems with your trucks I just hope I dont make the wrong choice... luck of the draw????? can some one increase my odds with some data they can prove about these three trucks ????? what would be the best choice ???

Well, fords suck. And as far as the Silverado vs Sierra, there's not $10 worth of difference, so get the one you think looks better

Re: I dont know what to get help me!

ANY truck anywhere near 100K miles is worn out. Only exception I'd take would be one that had been given a clean bill of health by an ASE certified disinterested 3rd party. Take whatever you're looking at buying to a trusted mechanic (that has NO ties to the dealer) and have it checked. Spend a little up front to save a lot in the long run.

F150's are good trucks if you can get past the looks.

The brand new Fords are by far the best looking ones Ford has ever produced. The syles before are all horrendous. Plus you have to worry about the ignition switch catching fire. But all trucks have problems. We can't make your mind up for you. If you want a faster truck stock get the Chevy/GMC with the 5.3L. If for some reason you opt for the Lightning, make sure it's a 99, everyone I've ever talked to said the 99 was the best year for the Lightning.

I'll agree that the slab sided things are a step above the '97-'03 models, but only slightly IMO. Obviously a lot of folks think otherwise, as the F150 is no slouch sales wise. I prefer the looks of the older models in the Ford line. I had a '62 F100 unibody (intregal cab/ box) a couple years ago that was very cool!

Re: I dont know what to get help me!

Lets see let me break it down for ya!!

Ford has the 5.4l V8 thast puts down 260hp @ 4500 rpm and 350 ftrq @ 2500 rpm... Imediatley after the rpm Peak power slots the power falls off dramatically!!!!

GM on the other hand has 290hp @ 5300 rpm and 330ftrq @ 4000 rpm. The major difference is that the peak torque and power DO NOT drop off the map after they see their peak rpm!!!

Results on stock vehicles:
ECSB ford 5.4 V8 17.3 in the 1/4 mile
ECSB GM 5.3 V8 16.7 in the 1/4 mile

RCSB ford 5.4 V8 16.5 in the 1/4 mile
RCSB GM 5.3 V8 15.7 in the 1/4 mile

Lets talk modifacation now!!

It takes an exhaust, headers, intake, supercharger @ 8 psi for an ECSB Ford f150 to make it down to the 14's in the 1/4. Take the same exact mods and put them on the ECSB GM and its running mid 13's!!

GM takes better to after market support where as the only ford's need alot of work to make them run strong!!! To better prove my point...I know you weren't here to see it but i just raced a 00 mustang GT with exhaust, intake, and god knows what else, in my 01 ECSB silverado w/ 5.3l and smoked him off the line all the way up to 95mph then shut it down, and this is after I'm already about 3 car lengths in front of him!!!!!

Re: I dont know what to get help me!

ECSB = Exended Cab Short Bed
RCSB = Regular Cab Short Bed

Those times sound like Automatic
