Dual Cats

I have a 1992 RS. 305 TBI.I have true dual exhuast, but I have two cats. Is this normal? Two of my friends have previous year rs's (TBI) and they only have one cat. Is there any disadvantage to having two cats?

Re: Dual Cats

I have two cats also.

If you have true duals, each bank will need a cat. I don't see what purpose only having one would serve.
That said....I will have cats when I get true duals, but they will be knocked out.

Re: Dual Cats

did you mean to say that you DONT have true duals??? there was a high performance option from the factory for the third gens, giving dual catalytic converters, it was worth 10hp as they were rated. These two converters then funneled back into a single pipe to the muffler, and then split into two exhaust tips. This is "normal" but somewhat rare as the majority of third gens had the single cat.

I believe that none of the RS had dual cats, only the Z28's did. Stock of course.

Re: Dual Cats

well, the dual cat option was available on Z28's but it wasnt standard. Id have to double check the option code for the dual cats, but it may have been ordered on your RS if it was available on them. It may have been a special 25th anaversary thing.
