Noisy fuel pump

I have seen quite a few posts about noisy fuel pumps. We just replaced the noisy fuel pump (62k) in a 2000 5.7 Tahoe, and the new pump is still noisy with a full tank.

The Tahoe has always ran fine. It doesn't lack power and still maintains the gas mileage. Can a faulty fuel pressure regulator cause the fuel pump to be noisy? Faulty relay cause the noise?

Thanks,

Steve

My '02 Tahoe's fuel pump has NEVER made any noise or rattling. Which sucks cause it just went out on me the other day! No warning just kaput. All good now, hopefully. BTW, I had just over 50K on it.

Re: Noisy fuel pump

some of the fuel pumps make more noise then others. the fuel pump should make a whining noise when you first turn the key on. Not all of them will continue to make noise after the vehichle is started.

Re: Noisy fuel pump

My 99 hoe fuel pump whines and has ever since I bought it two years ago. I've heard alot of other tahoes, burbs and silverado's that whine. Makes sense that its not as loud when the tank is full because its covered with fuel. If the whine is constant and doesnt change pitch, I wouldnt worry a alot about it. Now if it starts changing pitch or it just starts out of the blue when it never whined before, then I might get concerned.

Re: Noisy fuel pump

I have a 99 Tahoe that never made a noise untill it went out last winter, Then I had a guy show me a trick to get yourself running till you could get to a shop. Take a hammer and bang that sucker on the bottom of the tank while someone else starts the truck, It will fire right up and at least get you home.
Also,
The new pump sounds like a jet taking off and has since it was 2 months old.
I was luckey, my Tahoe uses the CHEAP pump and not the one that cost 350 bucks. ;-P
