dashboard lights flickering

This morning my steering and dashboard lights started to flicker/flash on and off but not in unison but the headlights were fine. Also on my way home tonight, the brake light, check engine light and seat belt light starting to flash along with the steering led and then it was making a beeping sound as if i was driving with the brake on. It is a 2001 Jetta GLS. Any suggestions?

sounds like it might be a short. you can check your fuses and fuse box for a loose connection.
