Question LS1 Fans

I was just wondering, what is a good source for a set of LS1 fans out of a camaro?

Re: LS1 Fans

good im not the only one lookin for camaro stuff to put in my truck haha. id kinda like to find a whole LS1, and the general opinion i get is look in junkyards. id say the same for the fans. tho u may wanna check, the fans may be the same for all camaros, not just LS1s. and knowing chevy, theyre the same as the ones in half the other cars in the lineup as well, so they shouldnt be too awful hard to find in a junkyard. um, just to be sure im not stupid, we are talking about cooling fans right? lol

Re: LS1 Fans

The LT1 fans are VERY similar, but are slightly different. The LS1 fans look like they'll mount up a little better. Plus the LS1 fans would automatically be newer.

Re: LS1 Fans

tru, they would be newer. as long as ur putting fans in ur truck that dont belong there, have u just considered one of the electric fan kits made for them? u can get em from jegs and places like that, but theyre not that cheap. or, if ur gonna go new, u can even get a universal electric fan from flexilite. im just not that convinced that the fans gonna be that much better just cuz its from an LS1 camaro u know? if its electric its automatically an improvement over one runnin off the engine itself, regarless of blade design. as long as its big enuf for the engine's/truck's needs. i think id just go brand new, cuz ive considered the fan swap thing myself.

Re: LS1 Fans

I've done the swap and if you can find the elec fans out of a 2005 Z71, Tahoe, Suburban, Denali or Escalade you will be better off. The GM fans fall into the side brackets and the upper bolts line right up. If you use the LS1 fans you will have to drill a small hole in the bottom of the shroud to hold the bottom on an existing pin, make two straps, two holes each, and drill two holes in the upper part of the shroud. Also I found the engine temp is great but my trans temp will creep up to 190 max because the LS1 fans are smaller than the radiator in your truck. I was told to get a trans cooler and put it in line with the existing trans cooler to cure that problem. If you purchase all the parts for the 2005 elec fans from GM you are looking at $470+. If you have the harness from Nelson already there is no drilling, no nothing but bolt in and plug-n-play.

Re: LS1 Fans

Thanks for the tip. Looks like I'll wait a little while so the electric fans out of the other trucks become more abundant in junkyards.

Re: LS1 Fans

Not that they don't work, they just require more than bolt in and run for the LS1 fans.

Yeah, well, i didn't realize there were electric fans in some of these trucks. I had wondered if the Camaro fans would cool enough. Those pewter bumpers of yours would look nice on my truck if I ever decide to de-chrome mine...

I found my first rock chip....... can't say that I like the look of that small spot though... just the cost of driving it.

Re: LS1 Fans

The roll pan on the back shortens up the truck enough that now I can put it in the garage. Definitely makes the smooth look better.

Go to a dealership and get a little bottle of touch up paint for $10. The color will match exactly. I had a few chips on and near my tailgate that I fixed with my paint.

Re: LS1 Fans

I got a cheap body man who painted the three parts of the bumper for $60. He already gave me a small can of touch up paint for the rear quarter edges knowing that I would have some scratches when I installed the roll pan. He is "Pushing" me to get the cowl induction hood so he can do the black SS style strips on it for me.

Since my truck is red and pewter, I was wondering if a red cowl induction hood with pewter stripes would look good or if I should just keep it solid red?

Re: LS1 Fans

Blender, I bet pewter stripes would look good. Maybe even pinstripe the edges with a darker accent color to make them "pop" just a 'lil bit more.

Re: LS1 Fans

Okay, new information. My truck currently has the 28 1/2x17. The new electric fans fit the 34x17 core radiator that comes in the 4x4, Z71 and HD's. After looking at the peices my '01 has the extra bolt holes for the bigger core radiator. So if I want the GM fans I will have to upgrade to the 34x17 core radiator and the electric fans, and 2 larger bolts. I believe those are the only parts needed. I also looked at the trans cooler on the brand new truck I found the fans on and the trans cooler was the same size so my temp problem will definitely be cured.
