Manual transmission diagram

my first and main question is does anyone know where i can get a manual tranmission diagram for a 1996 nissan maxima.
the problem is... i pulled out the reverse possitioning sensor to drain the oil ( and seal the sensor) and i ended up with a spring in the fluid!!! i've been told by many people that it is probably a detense spring. shipping has noticeable changed from nuetral to first, and nuetral to second. and also the return from far left to center. i don't know where the spring came from. every gear still works but it is sloppy and i don't want to put it all together, or have something detrimental happen to the transmission from driving on it like this. my initial intent was to change out the c/v shafts, and lower ball joints and came up with this problem
any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
thank-you very much in advance

thanks for the links, some of the DIY info on the one page is pretty good. that should be helpful for future projects.
however the transmission diagram isn't quite detailed enough. i think i need to know if there is a spring that is the size that i have, that is somewhere located on the positioning sensor or the shaft that that is mounted too. otherwise i have no idea how i could have ended up with this spring if all of the gears still work w/o grinding. thanks again for your response.

i found out where the spring came from. after talking to a local transmission shop and getting blown up diagrams of the transmission ( which my friend at the dealer thankfully gave me) we decided it was the detense spring from the 1st and 2nd gear shift rod.
the transmission shop told me nissans have access bolts to all springs and balls. i now remember .... having removed a bolt that was not the drain plug earlier in the day where the problem occurred. when the bolt came out, it brought along with it the fluid and the spring and detense ball. i ordered a new detense ball ( since i never found the first one) and will be putting it together tomorrow. i switched over ball and spring from 4th and 5th gear and put it in 1st and 2nd and it fixed 1st and 2nd and changed 4th and 5th so know i atleast know where the spring is from which is very reassuring. thanks for the response again, and i figured i'd atleast post this so if some other moron does the same thing they know where it came from
