Temp gauge error?

Cause my gp gt '98 its overheating i take it to the dealer and they tell me the cause of the problem its the radiator because its full of garbage and they need make a inside clean (sondeada - spanish). But they tell me "When the gauge of the front panel is at 3/4 (235 degrees) the computer read 212 degrees". What could be the cause of that false read of the gauge?, maybe the temp sensor?..

thanks...

Hola. Que tal. Still working on it? Didn't you put in a new ETC (temp sensor)? Was it an OEM AC Delco temp. sensor?

I figured you'd have problems with the radiator because it looks like Dexcool and regular antifreeze was mixed and you didn't bleed the system when you first had the problem.

It's possible your gauge is off because the dealer stated that the actual temperature was 212 degrees on I'm assuming a Tech II machine.

Another cause could be corrosion at the connector plug on the electrical connector at the ETC sensor located below your themostat causing abnormal resistance readings to the gauge or wiring.

Just a suggestion and my 2 cents but you could get an aftermarket temperature gauge for troubleshooting purposes and hook it up to your ETC sensor. Most come with connector adapters or you can tap in. See how it reads and that should help you make a decision as to what specifically is causing your problem whether actually overheating or a gauge issue. Good luck!

Bob,
Thought with the heat you get, you'd be running a 160 Tsat.
And your starting to sound like Big-L's replacement. Has anyone heard from him? I think he was picked up by a space ship.

Hi Jim,

Got the PDF file for this guy just in case. Thanks. I had a 160 degree TS last year due to extensive dragstrip activity but it got chilly last winter and the heater took a while to feel comfortable. Put the 180 degree back in. Too lazy to put the 160 back in but got that flush done and new Prestone Extended Life coolant (green). The cooling system has always been great on this GTP. Got lucky, good thing it wasn't a lemon...lol. Had it 7 years now. It's in immaculate condition.

Big-L's replacement. I doubt that. He's one of a kind. A lot of guys in the forum owe him a beer or two. He could stay drunk for days as a result. Maybe he got lost in Roswell.

Nice chatting.

Loks Like my problem it's finish...

I perform a power wash of the cooling system and the primary thing was a clean to the radiator (sondeada) it was a really mess inside, "it has 5 lines blocked" the tecnician says... after that, my car rise only at the 200 degrees at most... (just before the halfway mark) with A/C o Without it...

thanks all of you for the reply's, you helpme a lot.

PD. Already have a 195 degrees T-Stat installed from the dealer who replace my 180 T-Stat, they said it keep better the pressure of the system.

Thanks again...

Muy bien y por nada (very good and you're welcome). Glad you got it. Just before the halfway mark on the temp. gauge looks good to me. Hasta la vista.
