I am not sure in the 2nd genearation neon, but in the first, all you have to do is push up on it. Although that wasn't required to replace the stereo in my car.

im doing the same thing u have to rotate the air vents above the radio till they pop out then theres 2 screws there, then take the 4 knobs off for the air. and u should be able to go from there. and why the hell are they still putting casete players in cars its not like they put vcrs in suv. and i dont think they even make casetes anymore.
