Re: code po 401

More than likely it is the DPFE (Delta Pressure Feedback EGR) valve. Ford has has a major problem with them.

Re: code po 401

People whom have had this problem have replaced the egr valve and the eger silinoid with no fix but they have round that for some reason the DPFE (Differential Pressure Feedback EGR) set this code to and have found this is a food fix.
This part number was for a sport trac have them reference it for your explorer PART NUMBER IS FMC 4U7Z9J460AA AFTER 11/01 BUILD DATE approx. $35.31 WITH TAX. DON'T BUY THE WELL'S VERSION, SAME AS THE ORIGINAL

When going to the dealer for an egr sensor, ask for a 9J460.
Provide the dealer parts counter person with year, model and
engine type.
Also, keep in mind that the egr sensor requires secure vacuum
hoses. The Ford basic part number for egr sensor hoses is a
9P760. These hoses are silicone based and a regular vacuum hose
will overheat and dry causing them to split.
If it were me, I would change both hoses and the sensor itself.
IMO

I need to correct myself.
2001 model may have one vacuum hose.
But, it still has a vacuum hose that should be closely examined.

Not sure where it's mounted but it is not mounted directly on the
engine. The sensor should be black, the size of 4 crackers thick
with a vacuum hose.
I use the word cracker to refer to the squareness and thickness of
common table saltine cracker. IMO

Re: code po 401

I have the same problem with my '02 Explorer Sport. It pulled up code PO401 and the check engine light came on. I called the dealer and was told there was a recall for the DPFE Sensor (Differential Pressure Feedback EGR). He needed the Vin number off of the car and ran a check on there computer. Sure enough it was recalled. They will replace for 50,000 milesor 5yrs. Great since the part costs $80.oo at AutoZone.
