VW Golf IV alarm won't disarm & power locks wont work

I have a 1999 VW Golf MK4 TDi and the alarm won't disarm. The fob no longer works, and the driver/passenger power door locks no longer work as work either. The symtoms started a few weeks ago when I had to hit the lock & unlock button several times on the fob to get the door to lock. Now nothing works. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Can you manually lock/unlock the doors (arm/disarm alarm) with the key in the driver door? If you cant then the door latch is faulty. If you open the driver/ passenger door and the light in the door does not light up then you need a new door latch on the door that the light does not illuminate on.

Key fobs are a common failure, and they cost about 100.00 to replace them. IF the light does not blink on the fob when you press a button try replacing the battery inside. If the light still does not blink then you need a new key fob. The fobs must be programmed to the car by a vw scan tool.

Thanks veedubmechanic...

Thanks veedubmechanic... I can unlock/lock the drivers door only with the key, but I can't disarm the alarm with the key, or by hitting the lock/unlock buttons inside. (the little red LED just keeps on blinking) Additionally the power door locks do not work when you are in the car. Also the inside trunk release no longer works. Is door latch easy to replace?

The rear trunk latch microswitch fails alot just like the door latch. If the "rear lid" light does not go off when the rear lid is closed then you need to replace the rear latch (also can cause the alarm not to disarm).

If you have all the tools, replacing the door latch is not too dificult. Just takes some time .

Hi Veedubmechanic,

You wouldn't happen to know who has the best deal on a replacement drivers side door lock modules? I was able to take out the existing unit and it really wasn't to bad, The germans definately have a different design approach than the americans.
Thanks Again,

Hi Veedubmechanic,

Just wanted to thank you for your help on the diagnosis for my Door Lock Module issue. I replaced the module and all is fine now. Thanks Again, Mark Shufelt
