I'm Sick And Tired of NOT Having My Own Room...

I know things can be ALOT worse, but try and imagine growing up all through your early teens, on to you early 20's, WITHOUT YOUR OWN ROOM.

Me, my bro and my mother live in a 1 bedroom apt. It's basically a bedroom, and a living room w/kitched right there. I don't share the bedroom with my bro cause honestly we are TOTALLY DIFFERENT, in every way. We tossed around the idea of getting a wall put in, making the 1 bedroom into a 2, but it's way to small for that.

I literally sleep in the same room as my mother, i have one of those pull out coach beds, and she sleeps on another coach like 6 ft away. I can remember though, i swear it i never even had a place to study while i was in high school....it sucked.

THE OTHER MAIN SH*TTY thing is...PRIVACY.... I cannot even take a girl home, it sucks. Mostof the time, like when i'm off of work, my bro will be off to....so i can't even use the room for....ya know.... I can honestly say that i feel so embarresed when i have to tell a girl, i don't have a room. One girl laughed at me once, she was like "are you kidding me, how can you not have your own room..?!?!?"....

AND, i'm 24...... I seriously need to think about renting out a room, or getting a studio apt for myself. I cannot even stress how much more enjoyable my life would be if i was living by myself.

PS, right now, my bro is working....so i have time to type this...doesn't that suck. Anyway, anyone else grow up without a room..?

yeah i did, im living with my parents riight now.....cuz im still 17, but i dont have my own room, i sleep in the living room, so i can kinda relate to how it feels, but yes it sucks ass.....cant do anything..especially if i have a girl over

Not to sound mean or anything, but if I were you I would not go around telling anyone that you still live in the same room with your mom. No matter who it is. Especially if its your girlfriend or anyone for that matter. People start to jump to conclusions and would start labeling you a mommas boy or gay or whatever demeaning thing. So do yourself a favor and do not tell anyone that.

As for having girls or firends over, simple, just don't. Avoid the situation as much as possible. Hang out in their place, or at a motel or anywhere other than your home where they will can't see that you really do not have a room for yourself (and live with your mom).

As for the room situation, the only godd solution would be to get your own place. But that might not be possible at a moments notice. People tend to misjudge others and not understand that there are certain times that a family cannot have a room for each of its siblings. Its more common than most people realize, the only thing is that they don't mention it to all (like what you are doing).

So hopefully you have a job (if not try to get one), and save up and get your own place. Or have a sit down with your brother and mom and try to plan out a plan of pooling all your resources together and move to a bigger place.

my general rules of thumb is to save at least 4 months worth of rent in case you get problems with the job. If not when something go bad, you'll be at least 4 months away from being homeless instead of less. Thats 1 angle people don't look at it as.

Thanks everyone. The best advice is to infact move out, i see no other way really.

BTW, i don't go telling everyone i live with my mom, lol... I do have a full time job, and get payed...well, not to much. Only $10 hr. The hardest part about my whole situation..is basically it's extremely hard to save up the $$, between my car insurance, and helping my mother out...all my money just wanders away.

My mother is on disability, and me and my bro help her alot-i give her like $120 every 2 weeks.

Hmmm....what i really need to do is find a better paying job, pick a field...and run with it. I would love to pay like $800-900 a month rent..and be able to finance a car with a descent job....but until then, i gotta look for ATLEAST a room to rent, not even an apt....JUST A ROOM..like in someones house.

first off, I guess I am the only one, since I appear to be the only to say it, but I think it is rather rude, that your little brother gets the bedroom, while your mom has to sleep on the couch. She is your mother, let her get the room, and the boys can take the couch.

now, at 24, you should seffinetly be out on your own. now, its very commendable that you are giving money to help your disabled mom, but for god sakes, MOVE OUT! by the time I was your age, I had my own house, 2 cars, a wife, a child, 3 dogs, and had been around the world on uncle sam's dime.

studio's are cheap as hell. they also rent studios that typically have all bills paid with it too.

find one.

I agree, shame on your brother for hogging up the room for himself. And you are to be commended for helping your disabled mom. In this case, I would say try to get a better paying job and save up to get a bigger place for you and your mom and kick your uncaring brother out on his ass.

That all depends on the town/city/area. Here in NYC it was cheaper buying a house and paying the monthly mortgage than renting.

Hm, I say the easiest thing for you to do is go join any branch of the military, BOOM you goto basic training for a couple of weeks, come back with no hair and then you're OFF and got your own apartment more than likely making your mom proud and already got enough money to give your car everything it needs while being happy and able to masturbate by yourself without having to worry about your brother being there.
