Parking Brake Light Always On!

Hi All,

I am always checking out this site for TONS of helpful info. Decided to join in and offer what I know and get some specific help too:

I have a 1999 GP GT. One really annoying thing that has recently occured is that the Parking Brake light is ALWAYS ON!!! I never use the brake, but one day it just lit up!

Some one said it was the wiring. Anyone know of this issue?

Thanks!!!

Welcome to the forum.

Never use your parking brakes?? You must not have any hills, etc. in your area. You might want to try working it several times over n over and maybe the light will extinguish. The parking brake light turns on via a switch/sensor located on the parking brake assembly so i'd look into that before worrying about wiring at this point. It should extinguish when the parking brake is disengaged when it extends to almost the full out position. Good luck and keep us posted!

Hey there have you checked the brake fluid because my brake fluid was low and the parking brake light came on and I checked the fluid. And it was low after I added fluid the light shut off. Try that and see if that works!!!

Thats a good suggestion because the light not only lets you know if the parking brake is applied but warns of a general braking system fault after the parking brake is released and in normal operation.

Re: Parking Brake Light Always On!

If your fluid is up and no obvious leaks it could be a master cylinder. The light detects a pressure imbalance in the system

Re: Parking Brake Light Always On!

Wow thanks for all the advice!
I will def. check the fluid and try to press and release the brake a few times and see what happens. I know that I do need to change the brake pads soon. But I am assuming it had nothing to do with that.
Also, the light will go on and off with quick acceleration or braking....hmmmm

Thanks you guys. I did get the light to go off when I filled my brake fluid. Something I never really think about! It was just about EMPTY!!!
