Totaled or not???

Okay, really quick, I already posted a message on another board about my car getting smashed by some girl. Now, I got a few quotes, and they all said that it could either be considered a total or repairable. It is a 97, 4 door blazer. It was in impecable shape before the crash. I just replace the tranny 23 hours before the crash @ a cost of $1,600.00. I like it, but want the money. They said it is on the verge of being totaled or not. What should I do??? It has 108,000 miles, but is a good car. What should I tell the insurance company? I got two quotes, one from a gm dealer ($4,400) and one from another body shop just down the road ($4,800). Its blue book value is $5,650. I just replaced the tranny and still have the recipet. Please give me some advice!!! Thanks in advance!

If the insurance company totals it, you may have the option to buy it back from them.

Re: Totaled or not???

You need to know the value from all three companies. KBB, NADA, and edmunds. Make sure you get the retail value. The purpose of insurance is to make you whole again not better then you were before, so don't expect to get anything extra because you just had tranny work done, (if you do you are luicky). Replacing the tranny doesn't add to the value, it only restores the value. If they total it you should get a check based on the value from all three companies, not just one. It won't be the highest value but it won't be the lowest. Don't let the insurance company bully you into settling for a lower price. They pull numbers out of their asses, so if bluebook is $5,650, expect them to say the value is about 4,700.

Because people that already looked at it would not have returned to view an updated message. I wanted to make sure that the people realized I was asking a different type of question. Why? You have a problem with it???

Re: Totaled or not???

Look at it this way, PJ... If it was your dad's truck, and he was going to sell it to you as your first vehicle, and you know the truck, HOW MUCH WOULD YOU PAY TO BUY IT, irrespective of how much your dad wanted?
Just out of curiousity, EXACTLY what was going on that you had to plug in a new tranny?
