Angry rattle near the Windshield???

I am getting a rattle on my 2000 suburban, at 70mph and above. sounds like rain hitting the window. Sounds like around the lower front windshield has anyone experianced this before? I have rain guard window covers installed on the side windows, could it be noise from these? thanks

Yup, I've had the same pleasure with my 99.

The plastic grill (for lack of the correct name) at the bottom of the windshield has a short piece on each side, driver's and passenger's, that is held in with a screw under the corner of the hood, and a tab that slides in to the rest of the assembly. The tab on these provides too much clearance, allowing these pieces to rattle up and down in the wind. If you grab one of the fins and check for movement, you can confirm this. This rattle sounded like windshield noise to me.

I took eack one off and wrapped a small amount of electrical tape around the tab. The tape filled in the gap, making these pieces fit tight again, and the rattle has been gone since.
