Gear Oil
So I changed my gear oil today (finally). When I was putting oil back in the transaxle, I only used a little over 2 quarts but I was thought I needed about 2.5 quarts to fill it all the way up. Any ideas?
Note: The gear oil didn't look too bad when it was draining but once it hit the white pan, the oil was black and had a hideous smell. It had some "white" stuff on top too. :o/ |

Re: Gear Oil
Well if it wasn't drained completely, then that would explain why you didn't need the entire 2.5 qts...that's kinda normal. Did you fill it all the way up to the fill bolt? According to the instructions on www.stealth316.com If so then you are fine.

Re: Gear Oil
Yeah, I followed the instructions on Stealth316. I did let it sit there for awhile for it to drain until nothing was coming out anymore so I thought I drained everything. Here's something weird I found though. 3sx said I needed 2.5 quarts. Other sites that I've looked at said I needed 2.4-2.5 quarts as well. But in my owner's manual, it says that the nonturbos use only 2.1 quarts and the turbos used 2.5. Maybe 3sx and others just wasn't paying attention when I said I had an SL.
