A/C Cold on pass. side

I have a 1997 Park Avenue with the Dual climate control. The AC is cold on the passenger side and not on the drivers side. It is not hot air that blows out of the drivers side, but not anywhere as cold on the drivers side. What would cause this to happen? Anyone else have this problem? I just had the refrigerant recharged at the dealership and cannot figure out why this would happen.

I'm having somewhat of the same problem. My 1993 Park Avenue blows nothing but hot air out of the driver's side. The passenger side will blow cold air from the a/c or heat like it's supposed to. I have been searching for answers, but to no avail. If I find an answer I will be sure to let you know and please inform me if you find an answer on yours.....

I had the same problem last year. I thought it was related to to doors which switch air flow around and was trying to figure this from that angle. Finally gave up and went to the dealer. Here is what the problem was. The compressor! In this system, if the compressor is weak and not fill the entire evaporator with cold, then the passenger gets the cold air but there is not enough for the driver side as the driver part of of the evaporator is the top. A new compressor solved the problem. Only thing wrong with that was the price, but hey it's only money....

I have also been told that it can be a problem with the pressure and how it was filled. However, I just had this system changed in my 1997 to a new R134 or something like that in September of last year. I also just found out that the compressor that the GM dealership put in has a warranty so I am having everyhing checked on Friday. I will post back after that to let everyone know if that was the problem.

when this happened to my 95 PA, it was the blend door actuator was shot. the gear in it was cracked and it didnt turn when the computer told it to.

open the glove box, and pull out the two rubber opening stops in the back so the box hangs down. see if you can manually open or close the blend door rods. if you can, its shot. or see if both rods move when you go hot to cold. they should. there are two blend door actuators

Well...today I got some bad news. It turns out the evaporator core is leaking. The dealer told me that it will have to be replaced. The cost.....an unbelieveable $1050.00. Some 600 of it was labor. It must be pretty hard to get to. I told him that that will not even be an option so I guess I'll have to sweat through hellishly humid Illinois summer. Thanks for the suggestions though guys.

If you have a 1997 it came with R134!!!!!!!!!! R134 was a standard refirgerant used in all GM cars since 1994. Some 1993's even used it.
Low freon will cause all sorts of problems with the climate control system. i.e. hot on one side cold on the other and working well below 80 deg. outside temp but not cooling at all above 80 deg. Outside temp has a lot to do with system performance as well as a full charge of freon.
