Electric fan problems

Just replaced the water pump and hoses on my 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Runs below 210 now. I pulled into a store and left it running for a couple of minutes and the needle on the temp gauge had gone up to about 3/4. When I drive, it's fine, just when I stop for a few minutes. I looked at the ecectric fan and it was not turning. How hot does it get before the electric fan kicks on?
Also, right after the water pump change, the wired remote control for my 10 disk cd changer was not working. The CD changer plays, but I have no control over it. Radio works fine. Could these two problems be related? Is there a fuse for the fan. The owners manual did not list one for the fan.
Thanks,
JD

Re: Electric fan problems

The temp shouldn't get much above 210 if everything is working right. How hot was it when you checked to see if the fan was turning? Did you replace the pump with something equal capacity? If it's pumping more than the original did, it would make sense that when you're driving, the temp is fine because of how fast the water is circulating through the radiator. I may be wrong, but I don't think there's much of any electrical in a water pump, so I don't think this is related to the CD changer problem. It might be possible that you have a short somewhere though. That could have caused a fuse to blow somewhere. I would check all the fuses and make sure the fan is wired right.

From my experience with my 2000 JGC, it is either the Fan module (the whole fan unit) or the Fan Relay, Located behind then passenger side headlight. Here is a link for the location. relay

You can test the Module/Motor by jumping the wires on a 12 volt battery. The relay from the dealer cost about $175 +/-. My relay lasted a year and now I am replacing it again. The fan runs about $385 +/-.
The fan kicks on at just above the 210 degree line. And should run just below 210.
