Question Lexus IS300 Camber problems?

Hello out there,
I have a question about the camber issues. I have an IS300 - 2001 that I purchased 1 1/2 years ago. It was 3 years old with only 11700 miles. By the time it reached 17k I had to purchase all new tires after 2 blow outs in 2 weeks. Almost a year to the day and only 17k more miles, I had to replace the tires AGAIN (not under warrenty). The tires were worn on the inside only. The tire store told me that it is an issue with this model because of design for performance and handling.
I am not interested in buying new tires every year.

Can anyone tell me what to do to solve this?
Is this at all under Lexus warrenty?
Can I change the Camber without screwing up the car further?
The car has 34k miles and is on its third set of tires!

PLEASE HELP
Thanks,
Sarina

tires

Hey Sarina,

When I bought my 2001 IS300 in July of 2000, the dealer waited til after I purchased it - in fact, didn't tell me until I took it in for my 1st servicing - that this car goes through tires about every 5000 miles!!!
I was upset about this and complained, and they gave me a free set of tires at 5,000 miles.

I think there was some recall, too, on the tires for the 2001 year, which is what they told me when they gave me the car back with all new tires at my 15,000 mile service, tires I never asked for. At about 25,000 miles they were worn so I decided against the Potenzas that came on the car and opted for a $99 set of BF Goodrich Scorcher tires (my fourth tire change occurred at 25,000 miles). They don't look as "low profile cool" but the difference is so minimal, and I have been saving $400 ($100 per tire) each time the tires need to be changed. Since they are pretty cheap tires, they last me about 15,000 miles and they are much cheaper to change. Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to the car to make the Potenzas last longer, or so I have been told when I was inquiring like you are now.

Anyway, now I have 120,000 miles and am selling the car next week, and none of the potential buyers who have seen the car have noticed any difference in the tires. The performance is just as good, since they are Z-rated.

Good luck! And please reply here with what you choose to do; I am always up for learning what works for everyone else!

tires

clarification - when I read it back it was a little unclear: the BF Goodrich Scorchers are $99 per tire, not $99 for all 4!!!!

Re: Lexus IS300 Camber problems?

I have experienced some of the same camber problems; I have an early '01 IS300, getting about 30,000 miles per set. Most recent tires were Fusions. A little harder compound than Potenza's, no noisier, not quite as grippy but appear to be lasting longer.
