does this seem like a decent setup?

i have a low budget...and a stock 98 dx. these are the things im planning on doing to it as i work this summer:
1. mini me swap with d16y8 head and p28 ecu
2. cat-back exhaust?
3. cold air intake?
4. headers?
5. piece together a turbo setup
6. rims?? coilovers?? (too far away to worry about for now)

im only going to be working minimum wage...but i will be working pretty much everyday, all day...so this setup will take a while...i know it would be better to do an engine swap...but i cant wait around for that kind of cash...so what do you guys think?...ANY help or suggestions are appreciated. i really want some feedback on this.

also...what would be a decent cat-back exhaust and a decent cold air intake for my setup?...i havent really researched that much...but they seem to vary in price by ALOT.
thanks

**edit** maybe throw in an ex tranny somewhere in that list

Re: does this seem like a decent setup?

if you are not wanting to do a full swap, the y8 head is a good idea, but if you can find a Full D16Y8 Swap (tranny and all) do it. this should be under $1,000 (more like $700) and only a days time to do, if you know what you are doing, which i dont- LOL
while you are doing that you may as well build intenal, cams ect... anyway the full d16y8 should be a complete drop in and cheap

peacing together a turbo setup sounds real great but it is not as easy as every one says. there is many things to worry about, oil lines, turbo manifold, the actaul turbo, blow off valves, pipeing (can get from the exaust shop). this takes a little know how.
this will end up being over $1500

as for the exaust you just need somthing high flow. maybe $350

about $3000 total.
i am not an expert, far from it actauly.
and it is possible that i am retarded also

P.S.
if this thing has any power you will need a new suspetion also.

this may make me a bastard, but i hate young kids with ambitions

Re: does this seem like a decent setup?

what other differences are there with a FULL d16y8 swap...between a mini-me and a ex tranny?..for building up the motor...what would i do to it? and how much would that end up costing?

and about the turbo...believe me, ive read up on stuff...so i know how complicated its going to be...one of my friends' brother says he can help me with it...not quiet sure about that though...i mean the guy knows his stuff, but i dont know how willing he is to helping me.
thanks for the input

Re: does this seem like a decent setup?

thank you for praising my little d16y8 motor. I feel much better now... someone actually wants to swap in my motor when all i can think about is swapping my motor for a larger one!

Re: does this seem like a decent setup?

if you can, one of my favorite mods thus far, if i had to start all over would be the eibach performance springs. They make the ride so much more fun. Tighter handling too!

Re: does this seem like a decent setup?

If you are going to swap a motor...dont do D series. Whats the point? Get a B series. There's a shop on Ebay that's selling a B18B1 motor for $740 plus S/H. That motor stock puts out 140 HP. A stock D16Y8 only puts out 127 HP. I have a D16Y8 in my car now and there's nothing to brag about. IF you have enough money dont swap for another D series. For a little smiggen more cash you can do a LOT better.

Re: does this seem like a decent setup?

that's flywheel HP, it's more like 115-120 whp

And that's probably for just the motor itself, you're going to need a lot of other parts to do the swap successfully.

www.hmotorsonline.com has their complete b18b swap priced at around $2500 i believe, before shippng.

yeah...im not looking for a d16y8 full motor swap...i was just planning on the head swap (mini me)...and i know its nothing to brag about...and i wouldnt be pulling amazing times in the 1/4 mile...but i want to have a quick car...that i can brag atleast to my friends about...and a d16y8 with a turbo and all the boltons would be pretty fast..i think...obviously it wouldnt be as fast as a b series with a turbo...but i would still get some respect...right? ...and if i had the cash...trust me, id swap it.

Re: does this seem like a decent setup?

I would say do the mini me swap. While you are doing it, build up the block for boost. Turbo it, run insane boost on your mini me and have fun with it.

go here and read, check out the dynos etc. http://www.turbod16.com/

Re: does this seem like a decent setup?

forged rods, forged pistons and stronger sleeves. if you go to www.raceeng.com you can pick up a complete package for 800-1000 which isn't bad at all. But there are a few people running stock d16y7 motors on that site pushing near 200whp without a problem
