Re: Nova Vs. Mustang?

What transmissions do they have? The 74 350 Nova stock runs high 15's to low 16's in the quarter mile. I'm not sure about times for the 90 Mustang. It's not as powerful as newer models which would smoke the Nova. It probably will come down to which car is in better condition.

Re: Nova Vs. Mustang?

There were 3 different 350's available in '74. A two barrel with 140 HP, a 4 barrel with 160 HP (CA only) and a 4 barrel with 185 HP. So which 350 the Nova has will also make a difference. The 185 version will have a "K" in the vin plate. I think in the 5th position.

Because it has overdrive the Mustang will probably have a lower rear gear which is better for acceleration. I give it the edge. You better start hopping up that Nova!

i have the 4 bbl carb with the 750 cfm rochester quadrajet and it's the one with 185 bhp! but the mustang with its aod has only 225 bhp so iunno we are about equal on the torque! but after just a few mods im sure i will win! i plan an gettin a 268h comp cam and a edlebrock intake manifold and some roller rockers. if there is anything else that you can think of to give me the most power PLEASE let me know!! well either way i feel i am more than happy with my 350 and it surly looks an sounds better! thank you

I have a 71 with a 396 with work done to it. It has a th400 trans with a shift kit, and a posi track rear. I also had a 91 mustang 5.0l GT standard that was all stock. The nova was faster in the 1/4 mile, but it has the 396, I think that the stock mustang that I had would beat most 350 cars.

Re: Nova Vs. Mustang?

there are two things to concider here, one the 5,0 mutangs come with a 3.73 rear gear from the factory which is a great ratio and the 5.0 is a screamer, the nova is heavyer althogh not buy much and came with 2.73 to 3.08 the 3.73 was an option unless you had a big block nova. i ouw both a 1993 5.0 mustang and a 1978 nova w/mild built 250 6cyl and there both just as fast but my nova has a 3.73 rea end which makes the diffrence. when i put the 350 in the nove it will be faster but only because the nove has no overdrive and a 3.73, just a few thing to concider

We're talking about 87-93 Mustangs here, right? because they came from the factory with 2.73's, 3.08's and sometimes 3.27's.

Well, unfortunatly I think if the Nova were a 4 bbl non CA, it would win, considering the Mustang is stock. Stock is only fair, but the stock gear ratio can vary greatly in these Mustangs. Most likely it has a 2.73 gear ratio which makes it a 15 second dog, or a 3.08 which would probably have a GT in the 14.7's 1/4. When I swapped from a 2.73 to 3.73 rear end, I went from a 15.1 to a 14.3 1/4 on some 215's and a 2.2 second 60'. Best make stock more "specific" and try to keep the stock vs. stock comparison fair considering the gearing, even if it has to be a virtual comparison.

Man dude it's time for you to pick up a Leap Frog and start learning how to spell. And the topic is comparing a Nova with a 350 to a Mustang with a 302. These are both v8's, let's not bring the 7.5 4 cylinder axel with the W code 3.73's into this.

I want to see official documentation on 87-93 302 Mustangs coming with 3.73's STOCK. That means the rear ends that were bolted on to them 87-93. FoMoCo makes 3.73's for 8.8's - they just aren't in 87-93 5.0 Mustangs...Explorers, yes...the 4 popper stangs, yes... other cars - perhaps.

I'm so tired of hearing how old threads are. What is wrong with old?

When something is old on an internet forum, ESPECIALLY one of these stupid "who would beat who" threads that have so many variables it's impossible to give a straight answer, there is NO reason to drag the thing on for two months.
