AC recharge

Alright, Ive got a can of 134 and the hose for my 97 Blazer. Can I do this myself or is it very complecated? Can I just refill it. The AC was working fine. Now the compressor just kicks in every 10 seconds or so and then kicks out. Ive searched the forums and it seems I may need a guage. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Oh and how long should it take to put a can of 134 into the system?

Re: AC recharge

Get a gauge to measure the level of the fluid in the system.

Get a measure and charge bottle from Autozone.

It is made by Interdynamics.

It has the right oil and refrigerant mixture to refill the system plus a gauge to measure the level.

You test the pressure with a gauge with the AC on MAX and the fan on full blast.

Use a gauge or don't do it at all.

You overfill, you will destroy the system.

Re: AC recharge

Without a gauge, you will have no idea of what pressure the system is producing. I have personally seen the small cans expand because of a stuck valve in the system. It was putting out over 300psi before it broke the gauge.

Are those the ones that have the R134a in them with a gauge on the line ?

How do you know what the PSI SHOULD be for say a 99 ? Are they all the same ?

Do you put it on the left port (near firewall) on evaporator ???

I have "ok" cooling but am wondering if it could be better as it's 6-7 years old.....?

Any observations / tips are appreciated...

thanks

Yes they are the ones with 134a and a gauge in the line. Here's a link to a description at Advance Auto, they are cheaper at Walmart, though.
http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...tnumber=MAC134

Here are the instructions:
http://www.partsamerica.com/product_...structions.pdf

The low side port is on the acumulator.

I don't know what the PSI should be I just went with what the can said, according to it:

0-25 PSI......Add refrigerant
25-45 PSI....System has proper amount of refrigerant
45-65 PSI....Do not add refrigerant! Seek professional help!
65-200 PSI...Do not add refrigerant! Your system has a problem other than low refrigerant. Seek professional help!

Yes, the evaporator is in the firewall box. And the condensor is by the radiator.

You're welcome.

Scratch that idea. Called Autozone and itseems I need a license to purchase coolant in WI. Is there a distributor online that I could purchase from? I refuse to pay shop prices for someone else to do it for me.

Re: AC recharge

I got that exact autozone coolant hose.

I wont get into the details, but the shop wanted $950 to replace everything in my ac system. $4 of JB Weld has done the trick for now...
