ABS light

The ABS light came on in my truck when I was on the interstate yesterday. When I came to a stop, my speedometer went directly to 0. Then stayed at 0 until I reached 20 mph. Today, at a red light the truck died, it started right back up. Not sure if I have a loose wire, or if the VSS is going out. Any help?

Take it to the dealer to get the codes read.Daimler Chrysler has their abs information hush, hush.Basically, they have not released any information out to the public yet.An aftermarket scan tool will not read the codes on Daimler Chrysler's abs systems.Only scan tool that can read the codes is the factory scan tool,DRB III.

Re: ABS light

You can ground the Number 13 plug in on aldl to start abs codes. You have to read the abs light flashes. But would also need to know more about truck. And also 4 wheel or rear wheel antilock brakes.
And the GENISYS will read Chry. abs all the way to 94.

What year is the truck? My opinion on OTC scan tools,PIECE OF GARBAGE!
My father has one and it is a piece of garbage. The cartridge has to be pulled and put right back in to work. That scan tool was replaced with a Vetronix Mastertech that is a whole lot better than any OTC scan tools and does more than any OTC scan tools. What I mentioned is true,Daimler Chrysler has not released any information on their abs systems yet.

Re: ABS light

I'd check the speed sensor. I used to have a 99 1500, and the same thing happened to it, the ABS light came on, and the spedo quit working below 20-30 MPH. however, when this happened, the "BREAK" light also came on. changed the speed sensor (the one on the rear dif.) and that fixed the problem.

I can only laugh at that. Cartridge? What year are you in? OTC is one os the best you can get. Every one out there has there ups and down. But you better get ALDATA or MITCHELL ON DEMAND for a couple. Heck the Genisys itself will read Dodge all way back to 94.
But you belive what you want. I have the info even, if you do not.

It was an older OTC scan tool and I do not remember which one it is.My father will never buy any OTC product again since SPX,who owns OTC screwed him on a warrenty on a Robinair A/C machine.SPX basically deleted the info and told him that there are no records on file. The Vetronix Mastertech does more than any OTC scan tools. The Mastertech can reprogram GM and Chrysler computers. It even can program a brand new Chrysler computer, can check if a car battery is bad, it is self powered and is a whole lot easier to use.

Re: ABS light

That's great. I never said that the Mastertech was a bad tool. But you were wrong about the Genisys. I have use OTC since the Monitor 2000, Monitor 4000 , now the Genisys. Now for the money the Genisys is a great tool. Hay sorry your father had a bad deal. Can't answer that one. I am very happy with mine and it makes the shop money everyday and solves problems better than any tool I have been able to purchase.

I had a similar problem, here it goes. The wheel speed sensor located at the top of the rear is bad. The ecu uses this sensor to read the speed up to 25 mph. After that, that speedo sensor in the trans takes over. Thus, causing the jump or drop from 20-25mph. Its about 25 - 35 dollars for the part.
